they confirm today I have a room with them.
I did put the ProZ.com reference when booking, though. So had I not double checked, I would have had to book somewhere else, and actually I was going to book another hotel today. I had the confirmation with their apologies in my mailbox this morning, maybe after you talked with them?

It's all sorted out now. The first post in this thread is now updated.
Apparently, in the hotel, the keyword for this conference is not "proz.com" but my name, and this may have created some confusion. Now I inserted a direct email link with the subject line pre-filled, so from now on everything should be easier.

Hi Csaba,
Having read about the problems with the hotel reservation, I decided yesterday late to try what would happen and reserved a room for myself. I was only a bit confused that the form did ask about the payment method but did not want to know my credit card data (cc-number, validity, etc.). I also did not receive immediate confirmation, but I assumed that the system might not be fully automated and, since it was late night, I might receive some kind of confirmation today.
Early this morning (time on e-mail: 07:55 - which I assume was before you talked to them) I already had the confirmation in my box. In the res. I had only mentioned the reservation number without ProZ.com or your name, so I don't see that the name could have made a difference. As long as the cf.number is ok, everything seems to work.
The only small flaw was, that they confirmed a rate of EUR 55 for a single room with breakfast, where the price in your initial message is EUR 52. But hey, that's 15 EUR for the 5 days of my stay, so why make a fuss of it. I'll try to sort that out at arrival, and if they persist I won't sleep worse.

as I had mentioned the number and the reference in the first place and still had problems until this morning.
The rate I got confirmed for single+shower+breakfast is 52, not 55.
I read on the internet that this hotel is really nice, so I'm sure it will make up for all the (now solved) problems some of us had.

No, not at all - actually, it never is required. Western hotels would normally take your credit card but do not charge it intil you check out or don't show up beyond the day/time specified in their cancellation policy. In our case they really do not require any financial information. I don't know how Csaba managed to do that! Thank you, Csaba!
Also, I had trouble not getting any responses 3 times and finally called in for confirmation. They told me over the phone that my request has been received and confirmed via email, but I still didn't get it. Anyway, I have their verbal confirmation and count on it (I shall arrive 3 days earlier) but should anyone experience the same problem I would suggest calling them and/or providing an alternative e-mail address in the message body.

I am planning to visit a friend  in Geneva.
I have been trying to book a train to travel Budapest > Geneva on the night of May 3, but it seems to be very early (?!) Any tips on how to get there? (Easy Jet does not offer good combinations for my needs, that's why I thought of a train)

I am glad you confirmed your participation!
There is a very convenient direct flight between Budapest and Geneva by easyjet. (www.easyjet.com).
Book early to get cheap rates!
If you book early, flying should be much cheaper than taking a train. Alternatively, you can travel by train on one leg, to see the scenery (Alps), or fly on the way back, or vice versa.
As far as I know there is a direct train from Budapest to Zurich, from where you will have to change.

maybe the answer to my question has already been written or explained somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
Do the rates you stated refer to the room price only, without half- or full-board? I am asking this because I've seen the options for half and full board on the reservation form of the hotel.
Will the conference fee include meals as well, as it was in Edinburgh?
I will arrive in Budapest on April, 27th in the evening and leave on May, 2nd in the evening too.

Dear Fabio,
If you stay at Hotel Benczúr, you will get your room and a breakfast for the room rate, so it's a classical hotel package.
The conference fee will include all lectures, workshops and other sessions, all meals served during the conference (coffee breaks in the morning and in the afternoon, plus a buffet lunch), a cruise on the Danube on the first night of the conference, with a buffet dinner. Participants will also get a copy of the conference magazine plus any advertising material the sponsors may want to distribute.
On the second night of the conference, we also have a dinner together, but that's not included in the conference fee. The reason is that some people may want to leave early, right after the last lecture, so it would be unfair for them to pay for a dinner they do not consume. Originally I was planning to include dinners on bith nights in the conference fee, but in this way the total price tag will be some 20 euros lower.
I am still working out the details with Proz.com staff, and I hope we can launch the registration process very soon.
