Yueyin,

Thanks for sharing the wonderful video clips. You sure are a brave soul, driving such a treacherous route in the snow like that!

BTW, with all the publicity of a number of climbers losing their lives back-to-back summiting Mt. Everest lately, I was poking around on the subject and came upon this series of YouTube videos, uploaded by a couple named Kara and Nate, chronicling their on-going hike in the Himalayas. Judging by the number of likes, many others find the clips pretty interesting too.

Steve,

Steve,

Thanks for sharing these interesting videos about the Mt. Everest!

我觉得孙先生穿林海跨雪原不逊于007 SPECTRE。如果再用 Video Editor 配上乐,那就更 BOND(棒)了;

May 26, 2016

May 28, 2016

The Closing of the American Mind,有点意思。

Cory Richards:

I hate to say it, but, yes, reaching the top is important. Adrian is disappointed. It’s my job to know that disappointment, respect it, and not gloss over it. But at the same time, the summit really was the most inconsequential piece of the whole puzzle. I was there for three minutes, failed at Snapchat, and walked down. And I was happier to get back to 8,300 meters and see Adrian than I was on top. Yes, the summit matters, but also, it really doesn’t.

Life in the People’s Republic of WeChat
My full (and mostly successful) immersion in China’s everything app.

Dune Lawrence
June 9, 2016

I’ve had WeChat on my phone since a vacation to Beijing last year, when friends there essentially ordered me to download it. More than 760 million people use it regularly worldwide; it’s basically how people in China communicate now. It’s actually a lot of trouble not to use WeChat when you’re there, and socially weird, like refusing to wear shoes.

In China, 90 percent of internet users connect online through a mobile device, and those people on average spend more than a third of their internet time in WeChat. It’s fundamentally a messaging app, but it also serves many of the functions of PayPal, Yelp, Facebook, Uber, Amazon, Expedia, Slack, Spotify, Tinder, and more. People use WeChat to pay rent, locate parking, invest, make a doctor’s appointment, find a one-night stand, donate to charity. The police in Shenzhen pay rewards through WeChat to people who rat out traffic violators—through WeChat.
