Title: "Bilingual Translator".

Wow. Where would one find a bilingual translator? Are they sure a monolingual translator isn't enough?

Job description:

"Make sure that the linguistic content is correctly translated into the target language."
"Deliver a quality target document within the established deadline."

The bilingual translator should obviously take care not to translate any non-linguistic content.

I wonder if they are sure these superficial instructions are sufficient. Shouldn't they tell the translator to open the source file, type sentences with the same meaning as the original, regularly save the translation, and file it when they're done?

Requirements:

"language skill is a must have"
"Prefer candidates who have experience in translating"
"Must have basic computer knowledge and typing skills"
"Must have access to a computer and a stable internet connection"

Aren't they being slightly unreasonable and overly demanding?

They missed "must be able to read and write". Sep 15, 2015

I'm still trying to work out how one could translate "non-linguistic content", purely so I can avoid translating it.

Work from home Sep 15, 2015

Well, Thomas, this may make some sense if you see blogs on the internet posting things like: "Want to work from home? Complete surveys, answer phonecalls or do translations!" Note that they don't even say: "become a translator". Well, some easy jobs to do from home...

I insist that the clients need to be educated about how to do translation, that is, translators are at superior status to such clients/customers/agencies.

You mean they want a human? Sep 15, 2015

But they sure are demanding - they can't use me because I don't have a degree in linguistics and don't offer the right languages.

Or maybe just because my typing skills are ropey, who knows?

Yep, pretty demanding... Sep 15, 2015

Next thing you know they'll be expecting interpreters to be bilingual as well !
