Hi all,

Does anybody know of any websites that have Russian plays that have been translated into English, and that have both the Russian and English versions available?

Public domain Nov 30, 2007

If you want classics, they are all in the public domain and available legally and freely online.

yandex.ru or search google's Russian language section (much worse than yandex though)

Also, lib.ru often has English versions along with Russian.

And, of course, you could also check out Project Gutenberg - http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Plenty of literary material in Russian online. May 18

Easiest way to find it is searching titles or playwright names in Cyrillic. Just install a Cyrillic keyboard switcher or a popup Cyrillic keyboard that you can cut-and-paste from. Google lets me search in Cyrillic. I haven't tried other search engines.

Be aware that there are various incompatible coding systems for Cyrillic. KOI-7 and KOI-8 go back to mainframe days. Code Page 866 was for MS-DOS. Code Page 1251 is for windows, but is being replaced by Unicode. If you look at material in the wrong code page or font, you will see garbage characters. The Japanese term for this is Mojibake. See the Wikipedia article.

Must be bilingual May 19

I'm particularly looking for matching Russian and English translations of Russian plays. My wife is a director in theatre. She wants exposure to Russian plays. She does not read Russian, but I do. Therefore, an English copy works well for her, while I can read the Russian version at the same time and help her understand things that are lost in translation.
