For a translation course. We had to maintain original rhyme and meter for everything. And get the content right. Hardest translations I ever did. Give me a nice patent any day...  At least I can make a living on a per word fee for that...

I've just been asked to translate the lyrics of three songs for a demo disc. I agree that a keen interest in music is very helpful, as is direct contact with the artists so that you can discuss the inevitable compromises that have to be made between meaning, rhythm and rhyme.
