Die Schuhe müssen vorne am Fuß geschlossen sein, sollten zweckmäßig doch schick (elegant) sein.

\"Elegante\" oder \"schicke\" Schuhe kann m.E. nur gemeint sein, wenn es sich hier um eine luxuriöse Schickimicki-Eisdiele im Herzen von Hollywood handelt.
Dann könnten wirklich hochhackige Schuhe, Lackschuhe etc. erwartet werden - denn das wären meiner Meinung nach \"elegante/schicke\" Schuhe.
Geht es hier jedoch nicht vielmehr darum, dass der werte Gast bitte nicht in Adiletten oder ähnlichem reinmarschiert, sondern in einem insgesamt vernünftigen, angemessen Outfit erscheint, nett anzuschauen ist und niemandem den Appetit verdirbt?

Approach a wall or an object, and they shake faster. Move around, and different parts of the shoes vibrate. The shoes are equipped with infrared sensors that sense objects up to a meter away and trigger vibrations corresponding to the location and size of obstacles.

Smart shoes
Inside my running shoes, I have an array of transducers that picks up the impact upon the ground. Although the transducers produce power, it is not sufficient to power my computer (other research has actually been directed at obtaining power from shoes[7]). The shoes supply my person-worn computer with information about how my feet are impacting on the ground, and this information could be used to control an external process in an intimate manner that does not involve conscious thought or effort. An example might be to use the footstep information to establish a walking-activity index (a sophisticated pedometer of sorts that also measures forces and walking patterns), and combine this walking-activity index with heart measurements, resulting in a saliency quotient. The saliency quotient, derived from some measure of heart activity divided by some measure of foot activity would rise significantly should someone pull a gun on the wearer and demand cash. The reason the quotient would rise is that the footsteps would stop and the heart would beat faster.

\"Smart\" liegt vom Nebenklang her zwischen \"casual\" und \"elegant\" (s unten). Aber \"chic/schick\" ist eher zu nahe an \"elegant\" und außerdem vielleicht nicht ganz passend als Beschreibung für Kleidungsvorschriften.
Man könnte aber \"elegant\" folgendermaßen entschärfen:
Schuhe sollten (zwar) elegant aber (trotzdem) angemessen sein...
