It is helpful to create a model of labor migration in order to better understand the relationships that exist between the workers, sending nations, receiving nations and policy makers. In the Asymmetric Model, the main concept is that of a **balance between two ends**. Each end or balance represents a separate state: an originating state and a receiving state. The ends are connected or bound by a beam which symbolizes the relationship of the two states as embodied in treaties, agreements or understandings with regard to the labor migration process. The two balances are suspended by strings that illustrate the tension brought about by the continuing need to balance the two suspended (and connected) ends.
