Each loop consists of a twisted pair (Two insulated copper wires twisted together). The collection of all subscriber loops are known collectively as the Access Loop. The Access Loop allows any user to transmit information, both data and voice, to another subscriber via a exchange (local switch). The last few kilometers of cable from the local switch to the customer are generally voice frequency analog links.
