''Abnahmehaus'' is an expression common in northern parts of Germany for circumstances which are part of facts, in other parts of Germany known as ''Altenteil''. When a peasant retired, he had a treaty with his son, called ''Abnahme'', in the sense of turnover. Part of this treaty was a (oftenly poor) cottage of estate for the parents (''Abnahmehaus'') close to the farmhouse. When in German historical sources you can read, that someone makes a living from turnover (''lebt von der Abnahme''), it means, that retired peasant parents were kept by the family of their son.
