Bus/Financial - 管理 / Project management
German德语词条或短语: außerhalb der Linie
This is from a presentation of the business case from the organisers of the Swiss infrastructure for the Euro 2008 championships. This particular presentation focusses on the railway network, specifically the Bahn 2000 upgrades.

smarttranslator: 11:20 Aug 21, 2007: The only thing I can think of (and that's probably not very elegant or too wordy) organisation of projects exceeding the usual framework or scope
Languageman: 11:24 Aug 21, 2007: Yes - I did wonder myself if this was something like the English "thinking outside the box", but then perhaps it's a more literal play on words, given the Bahn 2000 connection. I'm not really sure if "außerhalb der Linie" is used idiomatically.
Steffen Walter: 11:42 Aug 21, 2007: Could "Linie" perhaps mean "Bahnlinie"?
Languageman: 11:45 Aug 21, 2007: @Steffen - That's what I was wondering. Unfortunately I can't establish if "außerhalb der Linie" is idiomatic or not, so can't really start to work out how 'clever' they're being with this phrase!
xxxCMJ_Trans: 12:18 Aug 21, 2007: of course the line COULD be a railway line but does the text indicate that they are referring to one single line only?
It probably refers to the organisation of the non-core part of the project
Languageman: 12:34 Aug 21, 2007: @CMJ - They are not necessarily referring to a single (railway) line; Bahn 2000 is a series of major upgrades to the Swiss rail network (http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/bahn2000). The title of the presentation is "Von der Bahn 2000 über die Euro 08…", presumably a reference to one Benedikt Weibel, who has been a leading figure in Swiss rail circles for years, and is now in charge of coordinating state involvement with Euro 2008 (http://www.benediktweibel.ch/).
xxxCMJ_Trans: 12:48 Aug 21, 2007: thnaks for the info: I am well familiar with the concept and have met BW on many, many occasions. But since I am not following the football thing, a wondered if they were referring to one specific line singled out in the project in relation to 2008?
Languageman: 12:55 Aug 21, 2007: @CMJ - Looks like you know much more than me on this subject then! This particular presentation doesn't mention a specific line, rather it discusses the "Kritische Strecken" as a whole.
xxxCMJ_Trans: 13:53 Aug 21, 2007: PS - not trying to show off, only to focus on the reason for my question. Having worked for railways for over 25 years......

away from the track
说明:
it struck me as more of a railway reference than a football one, dunno if I am right though

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I checked with the customer, and they confirmed this 'Linie' was indeed intended in the sense of the railway, but a play on words.

I'm not all too familiar with soccer rules, but isn't there something about "offisde"? I think this here is a play on words, either being "Offside project organisation" or "Project organisation from the sideline(s)"

提问者: Thanks for the suggestion. "Offside" has rather negative connotations though, which I don't think really fits with the writer's emphasis on management excellence (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offside_%28football%29#Offside_position). "from the sidelines" might work, but again seems a little too understated in the context.

outside the direct project line/organisation

说明:
I may be barking up the wrong tree or in the wrong woods entirely, but my first reaction is that this is not directly related to railway organsations or structures, but instead project organisations and structures.

In that sense, 'project organsation outside the direct project line' would mean the support services and infrastructure for the project.

project organisation matrix/ matrixed project structure

说明:
Could simply mean that the project organisation does not follow line management but takes skills from various line functions, i.e. is matrixed
