Currently working in the medical field (marketing and technical support), I've been translating "stuff" for the last 20 years or so, from scientific papers to commercial brochures and manuals. Yet, I'm not a professional translator and my presence here on proz.com is unrelated to my work.
Since I sometimes read literature in English, I find it interesting to think about translating and "how does it work". It's just a hobby, one might say.
I like thinking about what is the best synonym to choose for a translated word, or how the translator needs to adapt and modify the source - these kind of issues related to translating.
