1.1 Background
This report covers the findings identified during our audit of HSBC Jintrust Fund Management Company Limited (ISCN). ISCN is a joint venture between HSBC Investments (UK) Ltd and Shanxi Trust and Investment Corporation Limited (Jintrust). Jintrust was established in 1985 by the Shanxi Provincial Government. It is the largest non-bank financial institution in Shanxi Province and one of the earliest trust and investment companies set up in China. HSBC owns a 49% stake in the joint venture. The joint venture agreement was signed on 22 September 2004, regulatory approval to open the business was obtained on 1 November 2005 and the business commenced operations on 16 November 2005.
The fund management industry in China officially started in 1998 and the first open-ended Chinese mutual fund was launched in September 2001. Since 2001, 54 fund management companies have been established in China, including approximately 20 international fund managers that have set up joint ventures. The only products currently offered / allowed in China are retail mutual funds, which also attract large institutional investors. The investment universe for these funds is the Chinese stock market, Chinese government bonds and Chinese corporate bonds. ISCN therefore does not manage any segregated client portfolios.
ISCN launched its first fund (The 2016 Lifecycle Fund) on 10 April 2006. The 2016 Lifecycle Fund is open-ended and contains a mix of equities and bonds, which will be adjusted annually to reflect the risk profile of individual investors. The fund initially allocated 65% to equities and 35% to bonds, however during the 10-year life span of the fund the asset allocation will change in annual steps until the fund is almost entirely invested in bonds (95% to 100%). The changing risk profile over the life of the fund is intended to suit investors with medium to long-term investment horizons. The 2016 Lifecycle Fund has approximately 60,000 investors and AUM of USD 370m.
ISCN launched its second fund (The Dragon Growth Equity Fund) on 28 August 2006. This fund is required to invest a minimum of 60% and a maximum of 95% into Chinese equities. The fund aims to tap into China’s rapid economic growth by investing in selected, high-quality listed companies with long-term capital growth potential in the mainland market. This fund has approximately 20,000 investors and AUM of USD 180m.
The funds are only available to local investors and are sold through distributors, with approximately 90% of investors coming through the Bank of Communications.
At the time of the audit, ISCN employed 77 staff. For the nine months to 30 September 2006, ISCN made an operating loss of RMB 21.2 million (USD 2.7 million) made up of income of RMB 17.2 million (USD 2.2 million) and expenses of RMB 38.4 million (USD 4.9 million).

When NuVo, the manufacturer of affordable whole-house audio systems, decided to create an in-wall, multi-room home audio controller, they went looking for a unique display that was reliable, bright and clearly visible from any angle.
NuVo chose OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ Pictiva® OLED technology for its durability and high-contrast features. Additionally, its readability from almost every viewpoint made it the ideal display choice for a music controller.

The Pictiva® OLED provides a vivid 2.7 inch, “best-in-class” Graphic User Interface (GUI), which offers a bright, high-contrast and attractive display that is readable in a variety of environments including bright daylight conditions. The display provides up to eight lines of text, and allows the user to change the character height to make the text larger or smaller depending on the preferences and needs of the homeowner. One of the great benefits of an OLED display over the traditional LCD display is that OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. This means that they draw far less power resulting in energy savings for the user.

| | English英语译成Chinese汉语: Infocomm Singapore | 原文文本 - English英语 Local infocomm companies (iLEs) can look forward to more assistance in expanding overseas under a new programme announced by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts at the SiTF 2007 ICT Business Outlook Forum. The Infocomm Enterprise Programme, or iEP, aims to develop the capabilities of iLEs in the implementation and delivery of large-scale, sector-wide projects and to create new intellectual property (IP).
As iLEs build up their capabilities in the implementation of large-scale projects, this will in turn enhance their credentials and export potential. The programme will also accelerate the development of sector-wide transformational projects to increase infocomm adoption amongst user organisations in the sector. The BackPack.Net project in the education sector and the integrated clinic management system in the primary healthcare sector are examples of these sector-wide projects.
This programme is managed by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and it will help co-fund approved projects and in the facilitation and marketing assistance to overseas markets.
Dr Balakrishnan also launched "Infocomm Singapore", a unified brand for “Made-by-Singapore” infocomm products and solutions along with the Infocomm Singapore Portal. This branding initiative is a joint effort between the government and the infocomm industry to fight for mindshare in the highly competitive global market. The brand hopes to elevate the perceived value and generate stronger recognition of the quality and uniqueness of Singapore's infocomm products and services both locally and overseas.
A brand management committee comprising industry leaders will oversee the management of Infocomm Singapore. To help iLEs build up their own brand, a series of branding seminars and workshops for iLEs has also been planned.
To create a strong market presence, iLEs can profile and promote their products and services at the portal (www.infocommsingapore.sg/industry) which is a virtual storefront. The portal has a one-stop directory listing and capability maps of iLEs. Besides a listing of success stories of local infocomm products and services, a match-making engine for companies to source for partnerships and business opportunities will be introduced.
These programmes are in support of the strategies under the Intelligent Nation 2015 or iN2015 masterplan to realise the long-term vision for Singapore's infocomm industry. These programmes will help to achieve the goal of a three-fold increase in infocomm export revenue to $60 billion.
Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief Executive Officer of IDA said, "For Singapore to remain competitive we need to establish an internationally recognised brand for our innovative infocomm solutions. IDA continues to work closely with the industry to nurture iLEs with export potential and create opportunities for the creation of new IPs."
Mr Stephen Lim, Co-Chair of Infocomm Singapore Brand Management Committee said, "It is our vision to be the world's most trusted, intelligent and results-oriented solutions partner with the power to transform how people live, work and play.
