CafeTran can process XLIFF files created by Studio and memoQ. It does a rather good job on this. When you make sure to run the 2 tag verifications in the QA menu (and of course the other verifications), Studio and memoQ will be able to open the XLIFF translated in CafeTran and find no errors.
So, to answer the question in the subject line:

So, to answer the question in the subject line:
Do you need Windows to translate memoQ/Studio projects?
I'd say: Not necessarily.
Of course, if you don't perform a final check in Studio or memoQ, you will have to tell this to your client.
A frequently asked question is: Do I need to install Windows and Parallels on my Mac, just to process SDLXLIFF and MQXLIFF?
I say: No, you don't (as long as you make an agreement about this with your client).
