Dear CafeTran users,

Now that I have at last found a satisfactory CAT tool for the Mac environment, I don't seem to be able to use it due to incompatibility issues. I need to load a .xlz file that I was given by LionBridge, the problem is that it looks like that CafeTran does not support this kind of extension. Is there any other way to open such file?

Thank you in advance,
Francesco

I will try to get my hands on such an XLZ file and investigate the workflow, in order to help you.

Indeed. I wouldn't touch that ¢®@¶ with a ten foot pole.

Thanks. I've made use of the workaround that you suggested and it worked! Now, are you sure that when I rename the file extension back to .xlz the translation will remain untouched and LionBridge will see it? Thanks so much!

Okay, so CafeTran did what it was supposed to do, and what it's good at: handling true XLF files.

About the validation in GeoWorkz: I have no idea. And I don't think that I want to have any further business with the company behind it, after what I've read at Proz:

http://www.proz.com/forum/translator_resources/214510-geo_workz_disappointment.html

I'll just wait what Paypal answers me to my request to abort all withdrawals from Lionbridge, for a trial account that I cannot cancel, because I cannot log in.

In the worst case, I will cancel my Paypal account. Not a problem. Just glad that I didn't use my credit card.

Server TM in CafeTran and XLS Glossary Dec 16, 2015

Hi again,

This time I seem to have troubles importing the TM which is based on LionBridge Translation Workspace into CafeTran and, most importantly, even though I have found the option to do this, I am unable to import an Excel-based glossary. The software tells me to a glossary tab, but I don't understand where it wants me to go. Why does it always have to be so hard?

Thanks in advance,
Francesco

How to import terminology from Excel Dec 17, 2015

Importing terminology from Excel into CafeTran is very easy. Have a look at my First steps with CafeTran 2015 video. In it, I show a very simple Excel sheet (2 columns, one for source terms, one for target terms) at 00:25 and how to do the actual importing at 03:55.

You may find this video (for some reason, not referenced under "Instructional videos" on the CafeTran wiki) useful otherwise.

Yes, that I knew. However, after selecting Import Excel glossary, the software wants me to select a glossary tab, but there is nothing I can do. I need help.

Added now at the top of the list.

The creation of a Termbase from an Excel file is also shown here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmbpEeXPLyc

at about 7:00 min.

PLEASE NOTE: After importing the Excel file, you should always save the termbase under a new name via Memory > Save memory as …

I have tested the workflow up to the last step (loading of the translated file in GeoWorkz):
