Does anyone know why Wordfast Pro does not transcribe numbers the way that Wordfast Classic does?

Normally in Wordfast Classic, if (for example) I have a TU that is "Página 150" = "Page 150", then if I get "Página 166", Wf Classic automtically offers "Page 166" as the suggested translation - ie it transcribes the number.

Equally Wf Classic will ignore numbers and simply transscribe them (which is usually exactly what the translator wants).

With Wf Pro this does not happen. For "Página 166" instead of offering "Page 166", it offers "Page 150". And numbers are not ignored; in fact Wf Pro offers some completely different number (which can be quite dangerous, if you are in a hurry as it could slip through unnoticed - especially if the number is similar...).

In Wordfast Pro Preferences, under Filters, I have the box "Numbers extraction" checked - which I thought would avoid this problem from happening, but does not...

Any advice please? Many thanks

Use replaceables for higher TM matches Jan 24, 2011

Hello Comunican,

Try activating the "Use replaceables for higher TM matches" in the Preferences. You'll find it under Translations > Translation Memory.

This should do the trick!

Converting comma into decimal point and vice versa in numbers Feb 18, 2011

And to continue this great topic, how do you automatically make the numbers convert from one system into another, i.e. 1,0->1.0 and vice versa?

Anyone, suggestions?

People said before that there used to be some PB switch that is no longer available in WFP...

This is a major pain! I have a 40,000-word doc, of which half is tables with numbers with decimals.

Anyone to the rescue?!

Hi Pavel
Here's what I do:

1) In Word, select the table
2) Use Find/Replace and "replace all" "," to another character - I usually use ";"
3) When asked if you want to continue with the rest of the document say no
4) Then repeat, replacing all "." to "," again not continuing with rest of document
5) Finally, replace all ";" to "." again not continuing with rest of document
6) Repeat for all tables

That works for me and is great when the tables are included in your wordcount

Hope that helps

When when when will this be figured out? Feb 18, 2011

Use Find/Replace

Nope, Comunican, won't help me, because I work with TXML files and MS Word sounds like a great but forgotten tune. I like Wordfast, don't get me wrong! But this number omission and conversion is just driving me... how should I say it... I think productivity would be 25% bigger if I didn't have to take care of every number coming my way.

Hey, but thanks at least for clarifying how to make Wordfast omit numbers! That was useful!

Now we just need to take care of the conversion issue. That is the comma-decimal point issue.

Community, help!

there is a way that SHOULD work but doesn't Feb 19, 2011

First of all, I have the same problem. I spend time manually changing full stops to commas etc. You provoked me to try and solve the problem for once and this is what I came up with

Theory: click on the first segment of your table in the segment outline (possibly twice, so that the outline window is activated). Use Shift+down arrow to mark the lines that correspond with table cells. Then use Find+replace with the "selected lines" box ticked ("," to "." or whatever you need).

Practice: PRO will replace all the occurances in the file anyway, not just in the marked segments. Doesn't work.

Developers, this is badly needed - help...

THANK YOU!

Would work if the whole translation would be just one table.

But mine happens to be a mixture of all kinds of things, so any kind of replace all doesn't work.

OK, we're on the same page here: FIND/REPLACE is not a solution!

WHERE-IS-THE-SOLUTION?

WHERE???

HELLO! TRANSLATORS CALLING EARTH!

Can we have Wordfast people respond to this? Mar 9, 2011

I wonder if Wordfast people have read this thread and have anything to say... I notice they respond to other Wordfast issues in forums quite avidly... I'm literally stuck and continue to be stuck with this issue. I have similar projects involving numbers that will continue into the many months ahead, and this is, to say the least, a PROBLEM!

Hi Pavel,

This is a bit old but I found this thread looking for the numbers issue from the first post. Hopefully you've found a solution already but if not I would recomment posting your decimal problem on the Wordfast forum or point (or comma) it out to the support section if you haven't already. I don't know what the chances are they read this thread on Proz, but in their own forum they definitely will.

strange that developers didn't consider implementing Pandora Box-like option into a new stand-alone version? My first impression about 'Pro' was exactly like 'much bigger, but can do much less'. How it come that 'Pro'(fessional?) version couldn't use even Target_FindReplace?
I can't help laughing seeing old 'Classic' features slowly implemented as brand-new almost ground shaking features for 'Pro'. Is it marketing or something?

Sorry, Yves, I did expect much better and more from your software of that size.
Sure, it became cross-platform and could take many new formats, but still it left a bad taste in my mouth and PC. Yet I know why users of 'Pro' need Java, 'Classic', PlusTools, and 'stand-alone' MS Office
