(1) KudoZ milestone: Two million questions and counting...

The KudoZ community quietly passed the mark of 2 million questions in July. The pair was German to Danish, the question was posted by member Sirius (in Denmark) - http://www.proz.com/profile/9393 and answered by site moderator Susanne Rosenberg (in Germany) - http://www.proz.com/profile/10424
Reaching this milestone is a tribute to the many, many colleagues who have helped each other over the years with their answers and peer comments. ProZ.com is truly the central location for translator collaboration.
It is notable that while it took about five and a half years for our community to archive its first million questions, it took just over two years to log the next million. The archives are now searched 75,000 or so on the average day by translators around the world - this is a testament to the value we have together brought to the industry!

(2) SDL certification to be supported throughout site

A press release has been issued to let the industry know that ProZ.com has agreed with SDL to integrate the SDL TRADOS Certification credential into the site's online workplace and translator profiles.
Outsourcers at ProZ.com now have a means of requiring SDL TRADOS or SDLX Certification when posting to the job board or searching the directory, and also when using the new ProZ.com Connect! sourcing and vendor management platform.
Conversely, ProZ.com translators are now able to showcase their SDL TRADOS Certification credentials in their profiles, thereby indicating to potential and existing clients that they are fully prepared to work with the world's leading translation technology. Over 5,500 corporations, language services providers (LSPs) and professional translators are reportedly in the process of becoming SDL TRADOS Certified now.
This integration is in line with ProZ.com's commitment to encourage and reward ongoing education and professional development among the translation community.

"ProZ.com Connect!" is ProZ.com's next-generation platform for posting jobs and searching the directory. It allows outsourcers to find, qualify, and manage their data about language professionals faster and more easily than is possible with the classic ProZ.com tools. Access to ProZ.com Connect! (one login) is included with ProZ.com corporate membership.
In response to requests from members, the following improvements were made to the ProZ.com "Connect!" platform in July:
* An overview has been made available of average translation rates reported by the ProZ.com community.
* Enhancements were made to vendor management features. Upload your vendor database and manage it online.
* New "job costing" features allow you to enter number of words, match rates, etc., and find out what a project will cost to outsource to your existing vendors.
* You can more easily "close the loop" with all interested candidates when your search for a translator or team of translators is over.
* Connect webinars are now available--live, web-based training sessions to help you learn to get the most out of ProZ.com Connect.

The theme of ProZ.com's 4th translation contest is "Raising Children". Source texts are available now in English, German and Spanish. French and Italian will be posted soon.
Here is the start of the English text: "When my wife told me she was pregnant, I got that stomach-churning sensation that hits you on a plunging roller coaster. I was excited, yes, but..."
The German: "Tim befindet sich momentan in einer Entwicklungsstufe, an die ich mich später sicher am liebsten erinnere - weil sie vorbei ist..."
Spanish: "¿Qué les digo a los chicos? ¿Les diré que sean honestos y derechos, o que aprovechen cada ventaja de la vida? ¿Mística o pragmatismo? ¿Será equivocado inculcarles valores que el mundo parece despreciar? ..."
