Colorectal carcinoma is a commonly seen malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal tract, with rates second only to gastric carcinoma, and fourth among cancers worldwide [1].In the developed countries of Europe and America, colorectal cancer is the second largest cause of death due to cancer [2].China is a country with a comparatively low incidence of colorectal cancer, but in recent years there has been a rise in colorectal cancer rates, and most areas in China already exhibit some of the fastest growing cancer rates. Surgery remains the primary form of clinical treatment, supplementing radio-chemotherapy. The recovery rate of early stage colorectal cancer patients who undergo surgery is relatively high with a 5-year survival rate of as high as 80%. Comparatively speaking, late stage cancer patients are not as sensitive to radio-chemotherapy after surgery and local tumor recurrence and liver metastasis are primary negative factors affecting their prognosis [3]. Considering, it follows that the key to treatment and prevention of colorectal cancer lies in early stage prophylaxis, early diagnosis, and monitoring for metastasis and/or relapse in their early stages. In recent years tumor pathogenesis has undergone significant research, and abnormalities in regulation of apoptosis has been identified as an important mechanism of tumor formation and development. Due to the fundamental inseparability of research and clinical practice, use of the apoptosis mechanisms in colorectal cancer cells to detect cell apoptosis factors and explore apoptosis based treatments has become an area of increased interest for research of colorectal cancer diagnosis and treatment.
