Powwow: Beijing - China | Brief summary of ID verification procedure

Forum: Powwows
Topic: Powwow: Beijing - China
Poster: Parrot
Post title: Brief summary of ID verification procedure

The verifier will need to see a valid personal ID (driver's license, passport, voter's card, etc.). In order for this to make sense, you can either have your real names as Usernames or Name/Surname (both ID fields are accessible when you edit your profiles).

It's part of the site's privacy policy that you are not obliged to make your real names visible to anyone but ProZ.com staff and may toggle to your Username, but you are advised to have your name permanently in this field in case you want it visible in the future, since EDITING THESE FIELDS AFTER VERIFICATION WILL CAUSE THE VERIFICATION MARK TO DISAPPEAR (makes sense, no? Unfortunately, this includes the use of uppercase/lowercase/initials/married vs. maiden names. In such an event you will have to contact your verifier again).

As the FAQ on this explains, this is part of our "web of trust" procedures, and hence, prospective clients can be assured that there is a real person behind a profile.

The process is presently PERSONAL and does not yet cover the verification of corporate identities (no orgs/agencies can be verified to date).

I'll try my best to be there.

Another thing, could you please tell us how to reach ƴãIf I start from Beijing Train station, what is the best route (time & money-saving) to reach there? The time for me to go there will be plenty, but I have to take the most time-saving way to get back to the train station. I'll check the time for the last train back to Tianjin and calculate the time accordingly. Thanks.

Other translators in Beijing who are familiar with this route please also lend a hand for this. Thanks :)

I am definitely sure that we have much to discuss on this issue.

Have a nice weekend, my fellows!

Regards, Roy

Recently I read a discussion on Proz forum about "first world companies" offering "third world prices". How can we unite and protect our own interests? We do the same hard quality work but get much less in most cases! The big guys are playing with us and we compete with one another ruthlessly. Are we a pack of savage animals? We are being taken advantage of too much!

I admit this process will not be smooth and probably will take longer than we expect. But we should start now, shouldn't we?

This Powwow is a good starting point. But limited by its time and attendance, we certainly can't cover everything. This is why I suggest we have a program schedule and as long as we stick to it and focus on some specific topic(s), we can benefit most from this precious opportunity.

Hey, please vent your opinions my dear collegues. ;)

I even can smell the warm tea on that day. I still can't decide whether to attend that day, because there's still 20+ days ahead and I have some work to finish before I can come. But really like to meet you all personally. I think it's a good time to equip ourselves with good ideas and exciting reports. I thank the hosts for their hospitality and time. Two hours is short, so let us be prepared beforehand and we won't see time stealing away while we are exchanging greetings and biz cards.

BTW, is there a program guide so we can have something to stick to and for those who want to make speeches?

Another thing, I don't know how many people are like my case, but I'd like to raise this :) I'm a Muslim so I don't drink any beer and I don't smoke. Water and single-use cups are fine for me. Anybody else?

Thanks to all of you.
