Dutch term

vestigingseenheden

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
General context:
Belgian text (press release) about the Kruispuntbank and the IT technology used to implement it.

Specific context:

De Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen is een register dat alle basisgegevens van ondernemingen en hun vestigingseenheden opslaat.

If possible, I'd like to have a succint equivalent for this in English. I've found a few examples of 'establishment units' on genuine English-language sites, but that strikes me as very academic/bureaucratic.

Just for hints, here's the description of 'vestigingseenheid' from the Federale Portaal websit":

De vestigingseenheid is de activiteitslocatie, geografisch bepaalbaar aan de hand van een adres. Op de plaats of vanuit deze plaats, vindt er op zijn minst één hoofdbedrijfsactiviteit of bijkomende bedrijfsactiviteit plaats. Deze notie van algemeen bereik duidt meerdere activiteitslocaties aan zoals de « plaats van uitbating », « vestiging » en « productie-eenheid ».

Activiteiten
Het betreft bijvoorbeeld volgende entiteiten : atelier, fabriek, magazijn, verkooppunt, bureau, mijn, steengroeve, directie, kantoor, opslagplaats, goederenstock, agentschap, officina, filiaal.

Discussion

Yes Debbie, I second that. I also appreciate the extension background information given in the first place!
Deborah do Carmo May 3, 2005:
Nice to get feedback like this from an Asker on closing the question and good final choice.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I decided to use 'business locations' or 'individual business locations', although 'business activity location' sounds good for a more formal context. 'Place of business' also sounds fine, but it's one word longer. IMO 'entity' implies too much independence, and 'unit' is commonly used in an absract sense (e.g 'business unit') with out any reference to location."

principal or secondary place(s) of business

Here I'd probably be inclined to say (principal/secondary) place of business Kenneth judging from the definition - it's not the registered office as this is definitely where they trade from and it's not just the principal place of business as a secondary activity may take place from there.

Agree with you that establishment unit sounds very contrived.

Bearing in mind

insofar as this may refer (I would think) to both a trading and service business, I wouldn\'t personally use \"operational\".
