French term

C.A.O. et D.A.O.

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Hello!

I am not sure about the above term in the following segment:

Une définition C.A.O. et D.A.O. archivable directement sous CATIA suivant la demande de l’ I.V. XXXX, doit être constituée et archivée par le Fournisseur.

I guess that the term "C.A.O. et D.A.O." is translated as "Computer Aided Conception and Design".

Please assist me.

Thanks in advance.

CAD

"dessin" and "conception" both come under the EN umbrella of "design"

agree Charles Hawtrey (X) : CAO=Conception Assisté... Computer Aided Design; DAO=Dessin assisté...= Computer Aided Drawing.

CADD

Computer-aided drafting (draughting) & design.

Although most CAD packages combine both design and draughting elements. I believe this is the case with CATIA.

agree Charles Hawtrey (X) : Borne out by Wikipedia//I quite agree. But this article looks as if it was written by an expert. See www.3ds.com for something to wade through.

Thanks, Charles. I'm not sure Wikipedia is always a good reference though!
neutral chris collister : True, but the guys I worked with just called them "CAD".

That's exactly the point I was trying to make in my "Explanation" above. If the asker needs to specify that draughting is included, he can use "CADD" although CAD is generally understood to include both design and draughting components.
