Mr. Tran\'s greetings are pronounced \"Shin nien hao\" and \"Shin nien kuai leh\" respectively which more literally mean \"Happy New Year\". This other greeting is more common but actually means something like \"Celebrate joy and get rich\", used for the Chinese Nrew Year. Take your pick.

The general meaning of this phrase is happy new year, but in a deeper sense, it means greetings and blessings to you in the new year.

Actually the first two answers are adequate for Chinese New Year greetings, but this is another alternative that you might want to consider. This phrase has a more 'chinese' touch to it.

if you wanna a longer greeting on saying happy new year i can give you a sample:

in the coming new year i wish all of you a happy new year and will be suceed in any business you going to deal with.

meaning:
in the new year i wish you will suceed in any business you will deal with in the coming year and wish you more healthy.
