Non-PRO Chinese to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Fiction novel

This phrase confuses me because I not sure if this refers to the man's attitude or the wrinkles on his face. This is still a fiction novel about a med student in Beijing. It's 2001, and the med student has written his first book. He's at a party for an e-book company. Everyone has had too much to drink and this man jumps on the table.

I first assumed it referred to some kind of laid back attitude (which doesn't make sense, laid back people don't jump on tables to recite poetry) and my friend suggested it meant the man had wrinkled skin. If I have a general idea of the intended effect, I'm happy to change the metaphor to suit a typical US reader.

我对面一个长得酷似煮五香花生米的中年男子在十一点钟的时候跳到桌子上，在我六个

我说，下去，是你做的诗吗？

他说，我和你决斗，我和你喝酒！
