diverse slates

English Bus/Financial Human Resources
Recruiter must use Diverse Slates in their recruitment process.

What is slate in this sense? A kind of register or list? Or like a slate in a roofing work?

lists of applicants from various / diverse backgrounds

slate: (in a literal sense) a list of candidates for election to a post or office, typically a group sharing a set of political views. Example: "another slate of candidates will be picked for the state convention" (Lexico.com).

Good question. Only the employers would know how these lists are compiled.
Note from asker:
Hi Olivier, thanks for your response. Yet, could you please explain why a plural form (slates) is used? Does it mean there are several lists? (i.e. list 1 for gender 1, list 2 for gender 2, and so on).

agree philgoddard : It's an odd choice of word, though, mainly used in politics.
