Berufsunfähigkeit

At the moment I am translating a text and I am hung up on "Berufunfähigkeit" as well as "Erwerbsunfähigkeit." In German, they mean "inability to work in own profession"
and "inability to work." I was wondering if there are more specific terms that don't imply that an injury was caused on the job.
Here is the context in which the word are used:
Wirbelsäulenerkrankungen zählen dagegen zu den häufigsten Ursachen für Berufs- und Erwerbsunfähigkeit.
Thanks a lot

disability
In the USA, if you cannot work at your job because of long-term injury (work related or not) you are put on 'disability' where an insurance company pays you instead of your (previous) employer.
If you have a job-related injury, you would go on 'worker's compensation' where the money comes from a different pot.
However, except for this, I do not know if we make a difference in California, at least. If you are unable to work (they specify an amount of money you could earn--be it your original profession or not-- I think, above which you are back among the employed) then everyone speaks of being on 'disability.'
Just my shot from the USA.
