German term

Akutmedizin

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care Medical training
On a CV: "Erfolgreiche Absolvierung des ersten Semesters am „Zentrum für Ausbildung im Gesundheitswesen des xxxxx, zur Ausbildung zum Pflegefachmann HF, Schwerpunkt Akutmedizin"

I am proofing a CV translation. The translator has put "acute medicine" but wouldn't "emergency medicine" be better?

Discussion

Jutta Scherer May 17, 2010:
Sorry... ... I should have said this in English.
As far as I know, "Akutmedizin" does not necessarily imply urgency. Rather, it is the treatment of "acute" diseases, as opposed to chronical ones. I am therefore a bit skeptical regarding the use of "critical", "intensive"or "emergency medicine". (But if anyone here knows better I'll be happy to be convinced otherwise, of course.)
Jutta Scherer May 17, 2010:
Akutmedizin...

Akutmedizin = acute care medicine

e.g.:

Acute Care Medicine transcends specialties and is truly Multi-System in its practice. The technological explosion and the consequent super-specialization of Medical training have challenged multi-system Medicine in the health systems globally. Recent changes in hospitals have further minimized optimal training in effective practice of Acute Care Medicine. RACP acknowledges that training in acute care medicine is not as sound as it used to be.
