"Hier teilt die Skischule auch die Gruppenkurse ein und wird mit den Anfängern dann die ersten Schwünge ziehen."
From the price list/brochure of a hotel that's a winter resort. From what I can gather, "Schwünge ziehen" is a skiing term, but I can't find an English translation for this anywhere. In this case, beginner skiers are learning this for the first time. At the moment, I just have "helps beginner skiers take their first steps", but I'd like something more skiing-specific if possible. TIA for your help.

lay down their first turns
It is typical skiing speak to say "lay down some turns". Here you can adapt to what I have suggested.
Example sentence:
For those who can really lay down some turns. These skis and snowboards are not for the faint at heart.
