Discussion

SJLD Jan 9, 2011:
It sounds like there was pus formation underneath forming an abscess - the wound suture line probably dehisced (split open) or it was opened up - so the exterior of the wound was cleaned with clorhexidine, and the cavity flushed with saline solution.
Marta Riosalido (asker) Jan 9, 2011:
The report does indeed talk about a cranial wound that got onfected...
SJLD Jan 9, 2011:
Marta, is this the scalp wound?

agree lena helson : this phrase tells me that cavity is made by the wound /infection and is not a part of anatomy, which I dont think it is .

cranial recess

A definition of this term can be found in a text dealing with bovine anatomy. See below for details.

Correction: it's actually not so much a definition of a cranial recess as an example of one. However, the term makes sense here.
BTW, it looks as if the source text has a typo. Shouldn't _"föriktigt"_ actually be _"försiktigt"_?
Example sentence:

"The fundus of the abomassum (39) is a cranial recess in the left xiphoid region...."

neutral SJLD : sounds very strange indeed -like something actually inside the head - I think it's referring to the abcess cavity (wound infection)
