Möljer),

In the 19th century, Uyghur writer Muhämmäd Niyaz Ibni Abdughufur, wrote in Qisäsul γärayib (Internal Materials of Office of Ancient Books in Xinjiang,p. 150):
“One day Yafes (son of Noah) left Säwq Sämanin with his wife and children for the East and the North. He prayed to Noah, “Can you teach me one magic spell? A magic spell which can bring rain in drought.” Noah gave Yafes a stone and said, “this stone will bring you rain.” Then he incanted a spell called Ismi Äzäm, exhaled to the stone and put it in Yafes’s hand. The stone then had the magic of bringing rain because of Ismi Äzäm, the magic spell. There were many stones like this among Turkic people. They call them Jede taš, Persians call them säng-i yada, and Arabs call them häjaru’l määr. Aftwe Yafes settled, he used this stone whenever he wanted rain.
In the eyes of rain prayers, stone is of life, and understands the words and intention of men. The stone serves as a mediator between the prayers and the climate. So it is cherished and hidden from strangers and women. It is believed that if strangers and women touch it, it will lose its magic.
In Lukqun, Piqang County of Turpan, rain praying is still practiced. It happens in May or June. Women and children can participate. The number of participants are not restricted. The site is not fixed. Usually it is held near water on mountains. It lasts one or two days. One or two sheep will be killed as sacrifice. Part of the mutton will be given to the poor people and part will be the food of the prayers. The praying is led by religious leaders and they will pray 150,000 times, and the religious leaders will assign the time of praying to the prayers. People will collect 150,000 stones which symbolize the amount of praying. The amount of praying must be odd number because there is only one Allah. Besides praying, they have to confess 150,000 times. After praying and confessing, they have to attend self divine service twice. Then two most prestigious Ahun or Imam will dump these stone in flowing river. In May 2005, about 50 people from Dalankariz, a village near Lukqun, participated the ritual. Among them some are from Tuyuq, a nearby village.
On the foot of Ulugh-tegin Mountain in the southwestern part of Ismisalah, Qoshtagh village, Guma county of Hotan stands a mazar. Besides the mazar lies a milky white stone of the shape of an egg. People call it yada stone. The ballads about it are widely song. It is said that every spring, if there is no water flowing from the mountain or there is a draught, people from Mokoyla、Qara-qaghiz, Kökterek and Guma counties will come and gather voluntarily around the stone in the village of Ismisalah. They kill animals like black horse, female camel, cow, and ewe and hen which have given birth to calves or lamb, or have hatched chicken. Grating two yada stones in one hand, yadači, rain-maker, patters and prays:
Allah, please irrigate!
Fill the river with water!
Let water pour from Guma!
Let the lights of auspice shine!

I pray to the sky.
Let clouds fly to us.
Let black clouds fly to us.
Let clouds fly to us.
Fly in a hurry.
From all direstions,
Bring water with you, my clouds.
Let affluent water flow from Kalakunlun
And fill all rivers and springs
I pray to Koran,
Come, my cloud!
I pray to Gospel (Injil, New Testment)
Come in rolls,my cloud!
I pray to zebur (Psalmen Davids)
Fly to us, my cloud!
I pray to Pentateuch (tewrat, Old Testment)
Out of the respect to Mohammad,
Fly to us, my cloud!
Out of the respect to Satugh-Bughra,
Fly to us, my cloud!
I pray to supernatural power,
Fly to us, my cloud!

Come to the mountains,
Wash Möljer,
Come along chain of mountains,
Splash the cliffs,
Drive away the demons.
Let the water spring out
From the split rocks.

I pray to the elders
Bring my cloud!
Bring my wind!
Let cloud and fog cover the sky.
If the world is on fire,
Let my cloud become water
And the clean water run out.
