symptoms: Symptoms vary greatly between the different crops. # Usually chlorosis and necrosis appear on the older leaves. At some point, plants develop a wilt aspect, often only on one side of the leaf and this is intensified by warm sunny days. When the vessels are completely block by fungal growth, the shoots also also start to wilt. A brown discoloration of the vascular tissue (inside the stem) can be observed. Sometimes, at closer inspection with a lens, small black dots are visible in the dying tissue or on live tissue as well.
alternative_treatment: Apply fungicides containing Streptomyces lydicus, a natural microorganism.
trigger: Verticillium wilt is caused by soil-borne fungi that enter the vascular tissue of the plant through the roots or wounds. Once inside the root system, they block the transport of water and nutrients, resulting in the wilting and decay of the plant tissues. At later stages of the disease, the fungus colonizes the dying tissues and form dark structures that can be observed with a magnifying lens. The fungus can survive several years at a location.
preventive_measures: Use resistant or tolerant plants# Crop rotation with nonhost plants, e.g lettuce, peas, beans and corn# Avoid nitrogen-rich fertilizers # Use plant fortifier to strengthen plants against an infection# Clean all tools and equipment after handling your infected plants# Expose the soil to solar radiation for a period of time# Remove and burn infected plants (and roots) from the field.

إجراءات وقائية:
1. استخدام النباتات المقاومة أو الأكثر تَحَمُّلاً وتناوب المحاصيل وزراعة النباتات المضادة للفطريات مثل: الخس، والبازلاء، والفاصوليا، والذرة.
2. تَجَنُّب استخدام الأسمدة الغنية بالنيتروجين.
3. تحصين النباتات ضد العدوى.
4. تنظيف جميع الأدوات والمعدات المستخدمة بعد معالجة النباتات المصابة
5. تعريض التربة لأشعة الشمس لفترة من الوقت
6. إزالة وحرق النباتات المصابة (والجذور) من الحقل.
العلاج الكيميائي:
يعتبر استخدام مُبَخِّرات التربة فعالاً في مثل هذة الحالة ولكنة أسلوب للرقابة باهظ الثمن. وتعتمد الفعالية على المواد الكيمائية المستخدمة ومُعّدّل هذه المواد والظروف البيئية في وقت التنفيذ.
