Diskoteksbranden i Göteborg var en brand som inträffade natten mellan den 29 och 30 oktober 1998. 63 personer omkom och omkring 200 skadades, de flesta med invandrarbakgrund. Branden uppstod i en lokal vid Backaplan på Hisingen i Göteborg, där ett diskotek hade arrangerats. Cirka 375 ungdomar i åldern 12–25 år befann sig i lokalen, som var godkänd för 150 personer enligt gällande regelverk. Fyra ungdomar fälldes i tingsrätten år 2000 för att ha anlagt branden. Som anledning till varför de hade gjort det uppgav de att en av dem hade nekats gratis inträde till festen och därför ville hämnas. The disco fire in Gothenburg occurred on the night between 29 and 30 October 1998. 63 people died and about 200 were injured, most with immigrant backgrounds. The fire broke out in a room at Backaplan on Hisingen in Gothenburg, where a disco had been arranged. Approximately 375 young people aged 12–25 were in the room, which was approved for 150 people according to current regulations. Four young people were convicted in the district court in 2000 for setting the fire. As a reason for why they had set the fire, they stated that one of them had been denied free admission to the party and therefore wanted revenge. The fire was started in furniture that cluttered the party room's emergency escape route.
