I have worked in translation, interpretation, and Japanese document review since completing my masters degree at The University of Tokyo. My long list of clients includes numerous law firms, major corporations, magazines, and newspapers in Manhattan and Tokyo, as well as professors at the University of Tokyo. I am experienced in a diversity of fields, including legal contracts, automotive, finance, medicine, sociology, educational psychology, and fiction, and can rapidly adapt to new terminology.
Likewise, working and studying in Japan for six years granted me a culture specific understanding of the language that a translation academy could never begin to emulate. The University of Tokyo marked the culmination of this immersion. Taking the same grueling entrance exam as native Japanese applicants, with handwritten translation and essays in Japanese on anthropology, law, and global politics, and carrying out my education and research entirely in Japanese and Korean, offered the rigorous training necessary to fortify my career as a translator.
My grasp of the Japanese language is not only "native level" (certified JLPT Level 1), but at an education level commensurate with the top rung of Japanese society. I am also an avid and accomplished writer. I have worked in commercial copywriting, both in British and American English, write fiction extensively in my free time, and have published several works.
