English term

across 4 doses

English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals clinical trials
Context

Powerful A1C reduction across 4 doses.

OR

In studies, 75% of patients reached an A1C reduction of 7% across 4 doses.

Does that "across" mean anything else other than just "after"?

The term "across" appears to be used frequently within the context of clinical studies. If it means anything else other than "after," it is not evident to me.

Seeking confirmation.

Discussion

George Rabel (asker) May 20, 2021:
I appreciate the help. I received official confirmation that "across 4 doses" meant that similar results were observed after the administration of either of the 4 different concentrations over a period of several weeks. Unfortunately, neither of the two answers are correct, so I cannot award KudoZ. They do, however, confirm that there is good reason to be confused by that verbiage.

After giving my answer and reading the discussion, I gave a second look about this and I think "throughout" can be your answer.
Jenna Porter-Jacek May 10, 2021:
I think your second thought ("another possibility") is correct. Here is an example from a website on Trulicity (https://www.trulicity.com/hcp)

"Powerful A1C reduction across 4 doses...
...In clinical studies, the mean A1C reduction from baseline at primary endpoint was 0.7% to 1.6% for the 0.75 mg dose and 0.8% to 1.6% for the 1.5 mg dose. In a clinical study, the mean A1C reduction from baseline was 1.5% for the 1.5 mg dose (active control); 1.6% for the 3.0 mg dose; and 1.8% for the 4.5 mg dose."

The clinical trial used 4 different doses (concentrations) of the drug, and all doses (concentrations) saw a reduction in A1c.
George Rabel (asker) May 10, 2021:
another possibility The medication in question is available in 4 different concentrations or "dosis." The statement could be saying that the quoted result was achieved with either of the 4 different concentrations. I was intent on interpreting the word "doses" as "application" rather than "concentration."
George Rabel (asker) May 10, 2021:
The only other possible meaning I can think of... ...is that "across 4 doses" means after either 1, 2, 3 or 4 doses, but that strikes me as highly unlikely.
