Hello,
I would like to ask a favour to solve my problem.
This is the second day I am using Trados to solve my task and be employed to localization company.
I am given a pptx file and my tageditor opens it with wrong symbols such as :

PK!¿I‰2L.[Content_Types].xml ¢( ÌZÛr›0}ïLÿÁÃkÇÆÐ6M;qòдO½d&é( Û¤Ü)Nü÷Âx…K,ɬJ_’‹ÝãÝ=g‰‹«ç,lhÅ’"_xÁlîMhq’¯Þ¯»¯ÓsoÂ8Éc’9]x[ʼ«Ëׯ.î¶%eqwÎÞ

But it should be a text from the 29 presentation slides. Earlier I was trying to do this task at the company's office, so everything was working well, I could see the correct text and symbols from the tageditor window, but today I am working at home and I don't know what to do with this uncorrect text viewing.

my os is Windows 7
I use SDL Trados 7 freelance

Could you please help me,
a lot of thanks in advance,
Tatiana

Your old trados may not support pptx files (Powerpoint 2007-2013). So how about saving your pptx file as ppt file and try to import again?

linhdan, thank you very much for your suggestion!

I have tried it, unfortunately it doesn't help. When I try to open the .ppt file the program gives me the next warning:
"Failed to create file parser Trados.PowerPointFile Parser" then I choose OK and it gives me one more warning:
"(80005): Failed to create parser for plugin file format!"

I'll try to install another version of Trados, may be it'll help.

Alternatives to TagEditor Nov 16, 2014

Is using TagEditor a specific request by the company you're working for? Using TagEditor in late 2014 would widely be regarded as sub-optimal, given its development stopped six years ago and its interface is rather cumbersome. If you aren't familiar with it to begin with, you would be better off using one of the many modern tools that should accept your PPTX without a glitch.

When clients specifically request the use of TagEditor, they would normally supply you with a TTX. Since you were given a PPTX, you could probably use the tool of your liking and deliver a translated PPTX.

Dominique Pivard, good evening,

if only I could use another program, but I can't.
The company's demand is to use trados 2007.

SDL Trados 2007 is the right tool Nov 16, 2014

You should be able to process the PPTX file by using the 2007 version. 2005 version (Trados 7) has no support for the PPTX file format.

Possible workflow Nov 16, 2014

I wonder how they can ask you (a new translator, or at least someone new to Trados) to use Trados 2007, since it's not even possible to buy it. Well, I know it's not a problem in Russia, but...

A much more satisfactory workflow would be for them to send you presegmented TTX files, which you can then translate with the tool of your choice (TTX is widely supported by third-party tools). They would still get a translated TTX from you, which should meet their requirement.

Dominique Pivard, linhdan and Nurettin Ceylan,
I would like to say thank you all for your suggestions. I did the following: I uninstalled my MS Office 2007 and installed the old version of it. It allowed me to work with documents in Trados properly, except for the Excel file (I don't know why). I sent my work to the employer in time.
I wish you all the best!
