He met his graduation requirements as a Spanish medical interpreter intern at Stanford Hospital and Clinics.
During... his earlier years in Nicaragua, he was a law student until he moved permanently to the U.S. in 2003.
However, the struggle of underserved populations in health care steered him towards a new career as a medical interpreter making good use of his English and Spanish fluency, as well as of his experience of 7 years as a linguistic specialist.
Currently, he works in San Francisco, California as a freelance translator and medical interpreter. He is a volunteered translator for The Rosetta Foundation in Ireland, and for Saint Kevin’s Catholic Parish in San Francisco.
Altogether, he has more than 12 years of work experience in the health care industry, time in which he has gathered an extensive medical terminology knowledge base, as well as sensitivity and awareness of linguistic, cultural and systemic barriers.
As an active advocate for language access in health care, he is the San Francisco Representative for the International Medical Interpreters Association and a member of their Medical Terminology Committee.
He also serves in the National Medical Interpreter Certification Forum Government Task Force, and in the California Healthcare Interpreting Association Communications Committee.More Less Message: Welcome to the International Medical Interpreters Association Booth.
