More kudos for the Chinese investment model in Africa

During the 20th World Economic Forum on Africa, held from May 5th to 7th in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, Tweedie, the chairman of the conference, argued that China’s influence and new approaches to investing in Africa’s infrastructure should not be ignored. He believed that China’s move to increase its investment in Africa’s infrastructure had cemented the bilateral friendship and assured long-term cooperation.
According to his analysis, China’s only interest in Africa is economic. China has no desire to interfere with African internal affairs. He further said, “Chinese companies send their personnel to Africa to share knowledge and expertise. In addition, the Chinese government brings huge financial assets to Africa, while the engagement of the U.S. and other countries is somewhat different.”
Tweedie bileaves that China has played a significant role in Africa’s economic growth. Over the past few years, China and Africa have seen a continued strengthening of their relationship. The new strategic partnership between China and Africa is a “win-win” situation in which both sides grow and develop through their cooperation in such specific areas as, infrastructure construction and financial investment. Tweedie said that he was looking forward to new proposals through which China and Africa can continue to develop and to renew their partnership.
One conference representative, Martin Davis, Director of the Asian Research Center at the University of Pretoria’s Business Institute in South Africa, described China’s investment in African infrastructure construction as colossal. “China has a unique approach to investment in infrastructure. Its strategy for Africa is for 15 to 20 years, obviously laying a foundation for the long-term development of business schools in the African continent.” Martin Davis said. His opinion was echoed by other African leaders.
According to Xinhuanet.com, the President of Zambia, Rupiah Banda made the following public statement: “All can see the enormous contribution Chinese investors have made to African economic development. They are really helping us.”
And Rwandan President Kagame, in a recent interview, publicly proclaimed China’s role in boosting Africa’s economic development and infrastructure. He criticized the west, stating that western countries are simply extracting Africa’s resources and have damaged the African environment. “China’s investment and loans are what Africa really needs.”
