You should never give such values... Jun 15, 2008

as Dell = x times something else or vice versa
It always depends on what promotion do you get at the time you buy.
If you're lucky you can even get a Vaio or Toshiba quite cheap.

Buy the machine which suits your needs best for the littlest amount you can manage.
If you chose a Vaio, go for a Vaio and pay only so much as necessary and no Cent more. If it should be a Lenovo, than let it be Lenovo. As long you chose a brand, you'll do not a bad choice. Please remember

Please remember, that the machine you buy is already worth less as you paid for it when you take it out of the box. And within the next two-three monts it will be obsolete.
IMHO such discussions like this one do not have much sense. The one choses Mercedes, the other one VW and all do have their reasons. I would not buy a matt screen, because the picture is then not that brillant als with a glossy one. At least in my eyes...
What should be important for you is, that you should chose a laptop with the best processor speed you can afford, with so much RAM you can pay for and as big HDD as even possible. And then don't forget the screen resolution. Good screens have 1920x1200 pixel in 17".

Good luck with your choice

Window Film could be another cheap anti-glare solution Jul 13, 2008

Though I have Venetian blinds it can be disturbing even with a mat screen.

"Anti-Heat/Anti-Glare Window Film

Glare on monitor screens just gives everyone a head-ache. Monitor anti-glare screens are only a partial, and expensive, solution. Install window film and make the problem go away.

Window Film is cheaper, longer lasting and more efficient than window blinds (and you don't receive those expensive window blind cleaning bills) with the added advantage that window film gives 99% control of harmful UVA radiation thus extending the lifespan of your carpets and fittings."

Have a nice summer!
