“氫氧基乙基”即羟乙基。几乎所有的汉英和英汉词典都将“羟乙基”指向是ethoxyl ，如《英汉化学大词典》、《英汉环境大词典》等等。这就是我这个翻译ethoxyl的由来，以为ethoxyl 就是hydroxyethyl （羟乙基的直译）。

但仔细想来，ethoxyl 和 hydroyethyl 是有区别的。根据结构式，ethoxyl 是CH3CH2O-，而 hydroxyethyl 是OHCH2CH2-。可见词典全都错了，我也糊糊想当然、没有经过思考跟着错了。

因此，sun 的翻译是对的。

ethoxyl 的正确翻译应该是“乙氧基”。编纂词典的人出现这种基本专业错误，该下课才对。
