To get the most out of your experience, keep these tips in mind:
Learn the basics.
ED is a condition mostly caused by a lack of blood flow to the penis. VIAGRA can help men with ED get an erection and maintain it. Here’s how it works. When you get sexually excited, your brain sends a signal to the arteries in your penis. It tells them to widen. This lets more blood flow into the penis. When more blood flows in than out, you get an erection.
It works fast.
VIAGRA works in 30 to 60 minutes. But only when you are sexually stimulated (like from kissing or touching). Don’t worry. You won’t get an erection just by taking the pill. After sex, your erection will go away.
Practice makes perfect.
For most men with ED, VIAGRA works the first or second time they try it. Some men may need to try it a few times.
Easy on the burgers and fries.
Fatty food like hot dogs, burgers, and fries can slow down your body’s ability to absorb VIAGRA. So it might not work as quickly. Go with meals that are low in fat. And it’s okay to drink alcohol in moderation while taking VIAGRA.
Check your dose.
VIAGRA comes in 3 doses: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg—all of which can be well tolerated. Doctors usually start their patients on the 50-mg tablet. Many men end up getting the 100-mg dose. If you’re not happy with your results, talk to your doctor, who may adjust your dose.
Put safety first.
VIAGRA has a strong safety record. It’s the #1 prescribed ED pill. For most men with ED, it can be safe to take VIAGRA as often as once a day. Every day. Its safety has been evaluated in more than 130 clinical studies with 13,000 men. If you take a drug that has nitrates in it (such as nitroglycerin for chest pain), do NOT take VIAGRA.

VIAGRA is prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).
Discuss your general health status with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in sexual activity. If you experience chest pain, nausea, or any other discomforts during sex, seek immediate medical help.
Although erections lasting for more than 4 hours may occur rarely with all ED treatments in this drug class, to avoid long-term injuries, it is important to seek immediate medical help.
The most common side effects of VIAGRA are headache, facial flushing, and upset stomach. Less commonly, bluish vision, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light may briefly occur.
In rare instances, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including VIAGRA) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to these medicines or to other factors. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of vision, stop taking PDE5 inhibitors, including VIAGRA, and call a doctor right away.
If you have prostate problems or high blood pressure for which you take medicines called alpha blockers, your doctor may start you on a lower dose of VIAGRA.
If you are older than age 65, or have serious liver or kidney problems, your doctor may start you at the lowest dose (25 mg) of VIAGRA. If you are taking protease inhibitors, such as for the treatment of HIV, you doctor may recommend a 25-mg dose and may limit you to a maximum single dose of 25 mg of VIAGRA in a 48-hour period.
