原文文本 - English英语 When you insist on appropriate asset allocation, you should look at all your invested assets and not just at those with our bank. There are many reasons why you should like stocks and you may have had good returns from them in the past. Mutual funds, however, give you a good deal more diversification and that provides for safety. Furthermore, a portfolio of mutual funds gives you professional fund management and expertise in asset allocation and in each area invested.
Index funds have had good performance in the past, but recently they are lagging managed funds. Moreover, when you buy an index fund you are eliminating the possibility of being invested in markets not represented by that index. Recently Japan is doing very well, and Europe had a great year in the past. The portfolios give an ability to be more diversified and invest in those markets as well.
In your overall portfolio you should have room for a diversified range of investments: CD¡¯s for maximum safety, bonds for a somewhat higher return, individual stocks, and a managed portfolio of investments through mutual funds.
The amount of exposure to the equity markets you have should depend upon your return expectations and your tolerance for risk. You should only be invested in the markets as much as you feel comfortable, but it is important to consider you full portfolio.
