I had this "should be closed" problem several times these days.
Win 8, 64 bits, Word 2010, WF 6,03t and... Thunderbird latest version.
As far as I understand now, it's not a file problem, not a WF problem, and not a computer problem, but it occurred after I opened (and closed) directly a Word document in Thunderbird.
So even if you think you closed the file, there's something which stays in the memory, it's not really closed.

To get rid of this problem, just restart your computer and close all messages related to old documents and Normal.dot.
Hope this helps... ▲ Collapse | | | Samantha Payn 英国 Local time: 20:11 正式会员 (自2008) Russian俄语译成English英语 + ... If you use Dropbox ... | Apr 5, 2013 |
I use Dropbox as a Work-in-Progress back-up and used to get this problem intermittently, but frequently. I now keep all of my glossaries and TMs in Dropbox and the problme doesn't happen any more. My Dropbox folder has a wordfast.tmp file in it, which may be the solution. I didn't create it, but I don't fiddle with it, either!

Interesting! In fact, the problem started when I moved to the laptop, where I use Thunderbird. I don't tend to open documents in Thunderbird, but there have been times I've done it to see the length of the job.
I'll follow your suggestion and see what happens.

I don't use Dropbox, but this sounds like a good idea! Thank you!

Using Windows 7 and Word 2010
Am experiencing this problem with the error message "XXX TM should be closed". Rebooting the computer allows me to work normally for a time, then the problem reoccurs.
As it's been a while since these posts, I wondered if there was an up-to-date solution.
Forgive me if I've missed a more current forum, but have just submitted an important job late because of this problem, and am against the clock. | | | Short workaround | Mar 11, 2014 |

It has stopped happening to me (famous last words!) but I often got around it by just closing Word rather than rebooting.

In desperation because Wf Classic on my PC was giving the same error message, I followed the above link and as a result now have a PC that is infected with malware and is completely unusable, causing me lost time and now money to have it cleaned. Now all sorts of things including a back-up program for which a charge is levied is on there and it is impossible to deinstall. Luckily I have plan b and always do a back-up. I am normally very cautious but trusted this link because it was on proz. Foolish me. | |

Unlocker and malware | May 2, 2014 |
Unlocker is a perfectly safe software to use. Like many other freeware, it's "sponsored" by third-party programs. For instance, when you launch the installer, you are being offered to install something called "VuuPC" and "Search Protect":

You have an option to skip that offer.
Next you are being offered to install "YouTube Accelerator", "ShopperPro" and "Sense":

Again, you have an option to skip that offer. Once you've done that, you'll end up with just Unlocker, which is not malware and works just as advertised.
Just because you see a link on ProZ doesn't mean you can use common sense and your own judgment.
Even well-known corporates like Oracle and Adobe offer to install software of dubious value when you download their free programs (Java, Reader). Just read before blindly pressing the Next button. | | | Maybe a conversion issue? | Jun 16, 2015 |
I get this error message when I use certain types of online OCR converters. So for example, when I have a PDF (in image format) and need to use a OCR to convert it to a word document (for Wordfast classic) so I can edit it, it sometimes happens. I have found that certain types of converters do it, but others do not.
For example, I'm using Abby now, and I am getting this message.

Copy and pasting onto a new document seems to fix the problem, but it also changes the formatting. So I assume, at least for me, it is a formatting issue and Wordfast doesn't know how to recognize it. ▲ Collapse | | | Extra instance of winword.exe running | Jun 17, 2015 |

This is most likely caused by your converter (eg. ABBYY) opening an extra instance of winword.exe, as explained here:
https://www.wordfast.net/wiki/..._should_be_closed
Just close it and this should solve the problem. | | | 话题中的页数: < [1 2 3] | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Error message "TMname.txt should be closed" Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
