Hi.

I'm using MS Word with Crossover on Ubuntu Linux and trying to install Wordfast. I have done a manual installation by putting the .dot file in the startup folder. I had already set the Macro security level to low and set Word to trust access to visual basic project.

Result: word starts with the Wordfast menus up but when I click on the Wordfast icon to open up the menu bar I always get "The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your macro security settings."

I have also added Wordfast.dot in the Templates and Addons menu as suggested by the alternative installation section of the Wordfast instructions.

I really don't know what else to try.

HELP!!!!

Well, use MS Windows Feb 6, 2008

I'm serious. Nobody (Codeweavers as well) guarantees you full functionality.

By the way, you did not specify your MS Word version. I've seen some assertions, that this problem is specific to Word XP/2003, but Word 2000 should work fine.

crossover + wordfast Apr 2, 2009

Hi Paul,
I'm experiencing exactly the same issue with Crossover on Ubuntu 8.10 and Word 2007 (Enterprise). Have you found a solution?
Thanks.

Wordfast 6 Apr 3, 2009

aka Wordfast Pro seems to be a solution for Linux. It works, but I haven’t used it extensively enough to assess its limitations.

wf pro and wf classic Apr 3, 2009

Hi esperantisto,
yes I've installed wfPro on Linux Ubuntu and it seems to work fine, no problems so far. The thing is I really need to use also wf classic but I can't overcome the Macros issue. I manually copied wordfast.dot into the STARTUP folder and Wordfast shows up when I open Word 2007 (through Crossover), but when I click to open Wordfast, I keep getting the Macros message. I enabled all macros and VBA support, so I don't really know what's wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have the same (or similar) issue Apr 3, 2009

I think, it’s about the fact wine/Crossover don’t fully implement Windows API, since the latter is not open-source. Try installing Word 97 or Word 2000, if you have a copy. Or install Windows (in a virtual machine, perhaps). Or, theoretically, ReactOS (not sure, however, if it’s mature enough).

Sorry, I gave up! Apr 3, 2009

In reply to Tommaso, sorry I can't help you, I didn't really pursue the problem too much further as most of my work doesn't really require translation software...

Giving up can be rewarding, sometimes. Apr 3, 2009

Regrettably, months ago I gave up too. Which is a pity, given the valid license that I own, and the eternal pre-release state in which the new buggy Wordfast Pro seems frozen and keeps being sold. Unfortunately, Wordfast (Classic) has never been built and developed for Linux users, despite the dubious ad on their Website.

After having tried any possible combination of every WFC release + every M$ Office version I know of (with CrossOver), I believe Anaphraseus will remain one of the few (but limited) working alternatives to WF for a Linux user who's "defenestrated" Window$ . WFC was a nice tool under Window$, but it wasn't built with Linux in mind, for which it finds little to no support. For all this, it wasn't definitely worth its price for me! Fortunately, though, this forced me to discover other, free tools like OmegaT, which is so powerful in its simplicity, fully functional under Linux (it's multi-platform), and just as effective (and often more) with the most common file formats.

Of course, getting back to Window$ just for WF's sake is not a solution, but barely a compromise... and an unacceptable one at that, at least to me.

I really wish that open-source CAT tools like Anaphraseus and OmegaT could keep growing stronger and achieve the wide community they deserve, thanks to the impressive performance they seriously care to provide to professionals in a Linux environment. And this alone is already worthy of all my respect.

WFC and Linux: an unlikely marriage Apr 6, 2009

Thanks Leonardo, in the end I gave up two and kept WFC on my other laptop running Windows XP.
I'm now running Ubuntu 8.10 on my main PC and WFP is working great (I only have an issue with keyboard shortcuts which include the CTRL key - they do not seeem to work, any idea?).
I tried Anaphraseus too and it is still too primitive for certain tasks. Also, I managed to import a Wordfast memory and translate a file, but then I tried to reopen that TM with WFC and the new TUs had disappeare

I hope WF Anywhere will be fully implemented soon, because it will solve most of my problems, and I guess the same applies to many colleagues.
