I do use my phone to read and reply to business emails or to accept jobs on my customers' platforms, but I would never perform any actual translation work on it. Even if I can open any browser-based CAT tools on my phone, they are simply not made for small screens (and I hate typing on touchscreens).

I'll often do the odd sentence in an emergency.
I once had to do about 100 words, sat on the sea front in Pembrokeshire because I'd gone surfing and forgotten the job was coming. I wouldn't do it again, not with my eyesight.
It was a bit weird, but no weirder than using a CAT tool.

All my clients know my phone number, but the last time I had a phone call from a client was in… 2019 and it was a rare occasion. My phone is not a work tool (except to check my mail when I am out). I do need a written record and I insist on email for all work-related correspondence.

I used to check e-mails using my smartphone but I could not imagine that I would handle any work using it at all as it is not designed for that, especially in our industry while we are working on many applications, files, platforms, dictionaries, CAT Tools among other tools at the same time.

Too much scribbling. I do accept work by phone, but always ask the client to send me the files and confirmation by email.

Only in one and two sentences, as far as I remember. I rarely accept jobs by phone, too.

If I can view the file on my phone, I'll confirm the job while I'm on the go but that's about it.
I did one translation, of about ten words, on the phone once because my laptop was playing up and it was urgent. I often don't bother to bill little jobs like that, but this one I did, because of it being urgent and creative and having to work on the phone.

Admittedly the phone part wasn't the client's fault. But the job was so urgent, they couldn't wait for me to deal with my laptop playing up. I did get it working again about an hour later, it's not like I was having to wait for a part to be shipped from Japan or anything like that. Of course I didnt know how long it would take to get the laptop working again, but I would have gone to a cybercafé or borrowed a computer if I hadn't got it working that day. ▲ Collapse

I do check and answer work emails from my mobile but actual work I'd rather not do it with my phone. I did a couple of times, they were really small translations and it was an emergency, but if I can choose I always prefer to work from my laptop.

The answer is yes, but I stopped. Nowadays the only instances when I use my cellphone for work are checking urgent messages (though I go to the computer to reply), other than that it's just for personal communication and fun. I don't even like to buy things from my phone. I guess I feel uncomfortably limited on the phone (even if it's not necessarily true).

Phone can not be used for translation purposes, never, I just received my first glasses. Phones can even harm. Yesterday afternoon a translation request arrived to my inbox while I was driving. It was one of these first-claimer platforms. In my phone I just saw there were 4 pages of a dense text which I could only approximately estimate the word count by eye (quite common for someone who has been for many years in translation) but on my phone I could not see that the two pages were not the same with the other two pages, there were no repetitions. Result - I gave an underestimated bid and was obliged to work several hours for a half rate. That's why I am thinking I should never use the phone to accept translation requests, too... you can miss some important details. ▲ Collapse
