Poll: Have you tried AI-assisted video generation? ProZ.com Staff

I absolutely fail to see any reason to have "AI" generate a video from my text inputs.
a) Not everything needs to be a video.
b) The sloppy, uncanny, poorly lit result does not justify the insane amount of water evaporated, energy wasted and CO2 emitted by generating text-to-video.
Taking the chance of sounding conceded, at this point my intelligence still surpasses AI, so there's no need for it.

AI tools for video generation facilitate the video editing process and can provide images and avatars (human models that speak and move very realistically), but you'll still need your intelligence and expertise to write or edit the script, on-screen text, etc. These are just tools, not human replacements. I would say they threaten videographers 😀 because they help one person take on several steps in the video creation process.

You are contradicting yourself there. If AI tools did "not replace human effort", what about videographers then? Do they not provide human effort, which then proceeds to be replaced - and not even in a comparable way because the result is always unnatural and off-putting?
Also, are we going to talk about the countless human-provided assets that are being stolen and misappropriated in generating "AI" video output? Is that not countless hours of human effort?
No, I haven’t tried AI-assisted video generation. If I ever do, it would only be in combination with human involvement to ensure quality and creativity.
I believe the human touch is essential for delivering professional and meaningful results in any profession! Nothing beats human brain!

The issue with AI, regardless of the field, is the wrong perception that using it equates to spending less money and cutting rates, and over-relying on it creates a false impression that professional expertise is unnecessary.
This is what some clients should understand and this is what we should fight against!
I have not, but I saw some AI-generated videos, and it was like watching a horror movie. Or a sci-fi/horror combo. The way you put it... | Dec 20 |

... 'just tools not human replacements' and 'avatars (human models that speak and move very realistically)', makes me think of replacing human contact.
This is not the right direction, because avatars cannot replicate the essence of genuine human interaction.
I still prefer to have real people on screen rather than electronic images.

To me, AI-assisted video generation is a colossal waste of time and mindpower. From reading the majority of comments, I'm glad we're valuing substance over silly technologies. I'd rather spend time reading, writing, and specially viewing human-created materials (videos, poems, novels, stories). I have no use for AI or genAI. It's a toy solution in search of a problem. Real images/videos/photos capture unique nuances | Dec 20 |
People are more likely to trust real human faces than AI-generated ones.
That said, I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

These tools change the process for videographers, similar to what happened in our industry with the introduction of machine translation. I should have been more careful with my word choices, I guess.
To avoid further misunderstanding, I treat these changes as events on the market that we have to live with. I try to find uses of AI tools for my freelance business (as many people do) because the market is changing and the industry is changing and I do not see any opportunity for me to stop this process. The only way forward is to adapt (not necessarily using the AI, but my choice is to explore the options).
As for the "human-provided assets that are being stolen and misappropriated in generating "AI" video output", this is a serious issue and it is wrong for the software developers to use the content without properly getting the authorization for it's use. However, some AI tools do not create videos from scratch using tons of misappropriated data, but assist in other areas of video production. | | | Agree, human interaction is essential | Dec 20 |

I prefer human contact and human-generated content, too. Just recently, I chose to create a voice-over for my YouTube channel myself instead of using AI-generated voice (which can be really good). I want my viewers to feel that there is a human behind the content.

The first computers needed a lot of energy to function and their results were very limited, just like AI now.
Still, most people nowadays would say that those developments were worth.
