Hi there,
I am using Trados 2007 and Office 2007. Although it is quite slow, translation in Word works fine, but I am unable to clean up the translated files. I only receive the bilingual .bak and the following error message:

(-2147467259): Filter defintions file C:\ProgramData\SDL International\Filters\PluginFileFilterDefinitions.xml could not be located.
File skipped!

Did this happen to anybody else? Do you know what to do with the filter definition?

Not exactly but... Jun 1, 2007

That has not happened to me as you describe it. If you need to clean it for delivery and your TM has been updated (as you have the .BAK file), you may want to clean the file with the file opened, then Alt+F8, scroll down to tw4winClean.Main > Run (I think it is Run, my MS Office is in Spanish).

Good luck,

Elías

Try repairing your Trados installation Jul 30, 2007

Hi Inga,

I've been reading around proz a lot over the last few months but this is the first time I think I can probably contibute some useful information.

Hi Inga,

I've been reading around proz a lot over the last few months but this is the first time I think I can probably contibute some useful information.

We've had exactly the same problem with our installation of Trados 2007 on Windows XP: it didn't produce the cleaned .doc files and then we discovered that TagEditor wasn't working properly either due to it needing the same file. It had all worked fine for about a week before that.

Elias' cleaning up solution worked great for individual files but was a bit tedious when we had to clean up 60 files for one project last week

The solution we have found is to repair the Trados installation via the Windows "add and remove software" option in the control panel. Choose "change" and then "repair" when the installer comes up.

If you wiped the temporary files after your first Trados installation you'll probably need to download and unpack the whole thing again. You'll be looking to repair the installation off a file called SDLT2007.msi which the repair function should find unless you removed the temporary files. If you did, you'll need to show it where they are.

There are also basic instructions about how to do this in the Trados installation pdf.

The repair seems to install all the necessary files again.

After running the repair our installation seems to be working fine again.

Good luck and Saludos from Spain.

Before you start repairing try to register the software Jul 30, 2007

Go to SDL Trados program group and select the "Register SDL Trados 2007".
After this small program has finished its task, your problem should be gone.

I had a similar problem with Trados 2007 and Word XP Aug 6, 2007

Thanks for the info DoctorLingua - I followed your instructions to repair my Trados installation (I wonder why the Trados application itself doesnt offer this, as both versions 5.5 and 6.5 certainly offered it and it was very handy). I can now cleap up files using the file cleanup function in Workbench.

Repair also works with Vista and Trados 2007 Nov 15, 2007

This is just to report that the Repair solution also works with Vista and Trados 2007 8.0.

Great!

I have found a solution to this problem:

created the requested folder Documents and Settings\All Users\Application

Then it turned out that all XML files in the installation folder
neede to be copied to this folder.

When this was done, the cleanup process worked normally!

(But one
wonders why this was not done automatically in the installation
process...)

See my workaround who makes possible a true cleanup of the docx files (i.e the units are sont to the TM).

Today, for the first time and out of the blue, I experienced this error. So far, I have had TRADOS for a number of years and have always considered myself lucky I have not experienced any of the spine chilling moments so many colleagues have described in this forum.

I followed Jerzy's advice first, since his solutions are usually right to the point and effective. Not this time. Then I tried Doctor Lingua's suggestion and I am sorry to report that my application got all messed up. Now nothing works and everything bombs out.

Next, I reactivated my license. That did not work.

Then I ran the activation again. That did not work.

This is my current situation: as soon as I call the Suite, it says TagEditor encountered a problem and needs to close. I can open the TWB. Then it says Synergy encountered a problem and needs to close.

TWB seems to be working fine but I have not tried to do the clean up that caused my first problem. I am in worst shape than ever! Please help!

Difficulty in cleaning files with Trados Suite 2007 Apr 10, 2012

Hello, All

I had the very same difficulty and tried to follow some of the suggestions, however unsuccessful.

What worked for me was something quite unexpected and simple: save the file as Word 97-2003!

If that helps someone...
