What's going on with Annotation Edit and Zeitanker? 论题张贴者: Mercedes Rizzuti

Hi everyone! I've used Annotation Edit for the last 10 years, it's reliable and it always had great customer service. So, when my Mac died I bought a new one just to keep using this software that only runs on Mac (otherwise I would have considered buying a much cheaper netbook). Now the link to download the software is broken, no one answers any email and I can't see how will I recover my software. Also, some sites show it as if you could buy it, trial version and paid one.

I googled and the person who used to answer my mails has started a new job in a different company, so I left some post in his linkedin profile but I don't expect much.
Any ideas?

This is what appeared upon visiting their website last summer
I can see that the website is no longer reachable, so I guess that is what happened.

Thanks for your reply, Monica. I wrote to the legacy mail yesterday, still no answer.
I case no one responds I guess I will have to get a different subtitling software. Suggestions? | | | Monica Paolillo 意大利 Local time: 18:51 正式会员 (自2005) English英语译成Italian意大利语 + ... SubtitleNEXT Expert version for Windows | Nov 6, 2024 |
Hi, Mercedes. Actually in 2016 I moved away from Annotation Edit because it wasn't working well on Retina screens and Zeitanker wasn't planning any update or fix for the issues I had at the time (very small text, layout problems, etc.) So I adopted SubtitleNEXT Expert version for Windows, which also caused me to give up my usual Mac environment. In my humble opinion, SubtitleNEXT is the best software out there because you can customize every single feature and combine it with shortcuts and macro pads and if you do things right you can speed up processes by a considerable extent. FYI, I was asked about it (and its team version) at IBC Amsterdam in September. You might want to check out this interview: https://youtu.be/Ak1iTF4pV14
I was still using Annotation Edit on Mac for quick fixes and conversions, though, and last summer I was actually planning to buy a new Mac, but when I heard the news, I had to change my mind. My old Annotation Edit on my old Mac is still working, but I know I'm going to have to give it up altogether as soon as I decide to buy a new Mac.
I'm not aware of any other desktop-based professional subtitling software that does work on a Mac, unfortunately.

Thanks, Gjorgji! I will try Tero. It's not very clear for me which is the proper version for Mac, but let's go for it and find out.
Thank you all! | | |

Hi Gjorgji. I think you the .dmg are indeed the right files for Mac. In fact I downloaded one version and it runs, but something is not OK since I don't see the subtitles within the video window. But I'll work it out. Perhaps with a different version.
Baby steps. Thanks! | | |

Well, I don't have Mac, I'm on Windows, and I can see the subtitles in the video window.
I don't know which version you have downloaded, but the last one is Tero Subtitler 1.0.1.9.
You probably need codecs, or maybe to tweak the existing ones, if you have any?
Also try going to Edit->Settings->Video player-> and √ "mpv handles subtitles for preview"
And you should keep in mind that this software is an open-source so it's not odd to have problems, I mean there are problems also in commercial licenses software.
And if you mean on soft embedded (built-in) subtitles, it won't show them, because it doesn't have parser like in Subtitle Edit.
