Lucent Technologies and China Huajing Electronics Group Corp sign agreement for wafer purchase and commemorate the second anniversary of successful technology transfer


FOR RELEASE TUESDAY JANUARY 18, 2000

BEIJING, CHINA -- Today, Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) announces the agreement for the purchase of semiconductor wafers from China Huajing Electronics Group Corp. for use in communication applications. Two years ago today, Lucent Technologies successfully completed the transfer of the 0.9?m CMOS Very Large Scale Integrated Circuits Technology to China Huajing Electronics Group Corp. These wafers are manufactured by China Huajing using the technology from Lucent and have been qualified through the stringent Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories quality and reliability procedures to be used in the production of 5ESS at the Lucent Qingdao Joint Venture with China.

With the signing of this agreement, both companies wish to commemorate the second anniversary of the successful technology transfer and indicate to the public the positive results of the cooperation between the two companies and the continuous contributions of Lucent to the development of the communication industry in China.
