~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (1) Run a translation company? Corporate membership was made for you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A membership option was created earlier this year specifically for translation companies that use ProZ.com. Last newsletter, we told you that nearly 200 companies had joined, making ProZ.com home to the fastest growing network of translation companies. This month, we are happy to report that the group has grown in size by another 50%, to include over 300 companies worldwide.
Do you operate a translation company? Over the remainder of the year, and in 2008, we will be working with the group of new ProZ.com corporate members to create new tools to help you run your business more efficiently, and to help you collaborate more effectively with other translation companies. Already, with the new Connect platform, corporate members are benefiting from the next generation of translator search and job posting applications.
We invite you to join the network now, in the first year of the program. In addition to a discounted membership fee, you will also gain full participation and access to the fastest growing network of translation companies in the world.
For more information about corporate membership, go to: http://www.proz.com/join/corporate
For more information about Connect, the new "sourcing and vendor management" platform that corporate members are using, see: http://www.proz.com/connect
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (2) New forum for translators in Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Based on a suggestion made at the recent ProZ.com conference in Montreal, a new forum has been created for discussing issues specific to the translation industry in Canada.
For a start, members from Canada who are interested, are invited to introduce themselves to their in-country colleagues. Do that here: http://www.proz.com/forum/425
We will also be starting a community-written article in the new ProZwiki on the topic of the translation industry in Canada. The idea is that this article will serve as a reference for other professionals, students and companies in Canada. Details will be posted in the forum, so if you are interested, please "subscribe" to the forum.
Montreal attendee Damon Loomer has agreed to moderate the forum. Thanks, Damon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (3) Nuevo foro para traductores en Uruguay ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nuevo foro para traductores en Uruguay
Se ha creado un nuevo foro para tratar temas relativos a la industria del lenguaje en Uruguay. Los miembros y usuarios de Uruguay, o residentes en Uruguay, están cordialmente invitados a presentarse a sus colegas del mismo país.
More source texts will be posted, so if you do not work out of English or Spanish, please check in towards the end of the week for other languages. You can learn more, and subscribe to notifications, from: http://www.proz.com/contests
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (6) Tips: Key elements of a winning strategy at ProZ.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are three keys in any winning ProZ.com strategy: (1) having a complete profile, (2) defining clear areas of specialization, and (3) being a full member. Once you have done those, the next most effecting thing you can do to succeed at ProZ.com (bonus!) is earn a few KudoZ points in your niche(s).
-> Key #1: Have a complete profile...
If your profile is not complete, you are not getting found by potential clients and colleagues as often as you could be. Use the Quick Profile Updater -- http://www.proz.com/quick_profile -- to make sure you have entered all "required" and "encouraged" information.
-> Key #2. Define clear areas of specialization...
Even if you can work in a wide range of languages and fields, it pays to specialize within ProZ.com. In the site's workplace model, those with clear areas of expertise stand out from the crowd. Use the quick profile updater to list your top fields, in order: http://www.proz.com/quick_profile#fields
-> Key #3: Be a full member...
At a cost of just 114 EUR per year, Full membership in ProZ.com, the world's leading community of language professionals, is a no-brainer for professional translators and interpreters.
As a member, your name appears in the first set of results shown to companies who search the directory. This boosts your chances of meeting new clients via ProZ.com by a factor of four.
If you are not yet a member, read about this and other benefits of ProZ.com membership here: http://www.proz.com/join Also, check testimonials from current members on this page: http://www.proz.com/testimonials
-> Bonus: Earn a few KudoZ points...
Answering PRO-level KudoZ questions in your top language pair and field of expertise is a great way to boost your exposure at ProZ.com.
Answering just a few questions in your niche can significantly increase your chances of landing a new client. To understand why this is so, consider that when a client searches the directory for translators working in a given language pair and field, translators are listed in order of KudoZ points earned in the *specific pair and field*.
Although there are many translators with thousands of KudoZ points, they do not tend to be concentrated in any one field. By focusing on just your top field and language pair, it is possible to boost your position significantly by answering just a few questions. For many people, earning just 4 PRO-level points (by answering even one question) means moving halfway up the list of translators in your niche area(s). Search the directory to see for yourself the situation in your top pair and field: http://www.proz.com/directory
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (7) Powwows held in 65 cities for Translator's Day ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A great event took place around the world on the weekend of Translator's Day--September 28, 29 and 30, 2007. In cities everywhere, translators met to celebrate their profession at a series of ProZ.com powwows. Messages were exchanged from powwow to powwow, offering a chance to say hi to other colleagues around the world, and laying the foundations for a new tradition at ProZ.com.
Powwows were held in 65 cities in every corner of the planet! To see a map of the cities, and read reports from the powwows (or to add your own), go to: http://www.proz.com/?sp=event/powwow_board&show_mode=translator_day
And if you did not make it this year, keep the date open next year for celebrating your profession with colleagues worldwide!
