Una tercera parte de la población del país carece de acceso a vivienda digna y más de 2 millones 250 mil personas viven en hacinamiento, revelan informes de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público (SHCP).
En su informe semanal la dependencia indicó que el rezago habitacional en México totaliza 9 millones de hogares, que representan 31 por ciento de las viviendas particulares habitadas, e involucra a 35.7 millones de personas.
Por componente, se observa que el hacinamiento se concentra en 561 mil hogares, mientras las viviendas con materiales en deterioro y los que no tienen óptimas condiciones agrupan a un millón 100 mil y 7 millones 300 mil unidades, respectivamente.
Pese a este rezago, durante las últimas décadas se ha observado una mejoría en la calidad y el equipamiento de los hogares, según los Censos de Población y Vivienda del Inegi. Así, en los últimos 20 años el promedio de ocupantes por unidad muestra un descenso gradual que va de cinco personas en 1990, a 3.9 en 2010.
De igual forma, en 1990 el 19.5 por ciento de los lugares habitacionales tenían piso de tierra, mientras en 2010 ese porcentaje había bajado a 6.2.
El servicio de energía eléctrica en las viviendas particulares habitadas cubría a 87.5 por ciento en el primer año mencionado, mientras para 2010 la cobertura fue de 97.8 por ciento.
A su vez, el porcentaje de las que disponían de agua entubada en 1990 llegaba a 79.4, pero para 2010 ya era de 91.5 por ciento. Igual con la disposición de drenaje, cuya cobertura pasó de 63.6 por ciento a 90.3.
El número de viviendas particulares habitadas en México pasó de 21.9 millones en 2000 a 28.6 millones en 2010.
Sin embargo, incluso con los avances observados en indicadores de equipamiento persiste un gran reto para dotar de vivienda a los casi 36 millones de mexicanos que carecen de hogar digno. A third of Mexico's population lacks access to decent housing conditions and more than 2.25 million people live in overcrowding, according to reports from the Secretariat of Treasury and Public Credit (SHCP).
In their weekly report the agency indicated that the housing deficit in Mexico totals 9 million homes. These represent 31 percent of private inhabited dwellings, and involves 35.7 million people.
Per component, they observe that overcrowding is concentrated in 561 thousand homes, while 1.1 million dwellings are built with deteriorating materials and 7.3 million units have less than optimal conditions.
Despite this deficit, during the last couple of decades they have observed an improvement in the quality and furnishing of homes, according to the INEGI [National Institute of Statistics] Censuses of Population and Housing. So, in the last 20 years the average number of occupants per unit shows a gradual descent from 5 people per unit in 1990 to 3.9 in 2010.
Similarly, 19.5 percent of inhabited places in 1990 had dirt floors, while in 2010 that percentage went down to 6.2 percent.
In 1990, 87.5 percent of private homes had electricity, while the coverage for 2010 was 97.8 percent.
In turn, the percentage of those with available running water in 1990 came to 79.4 percent, but by 2010 it was at 91.5 percent. Drainage coverage also went up from 63.6 percent to 90.3 percent.

How do you pump up the value of your company in these difficult times? One tried and tested way is to hoodwink equity analysts, according to a new study of 1,300 corporate bosses, board directors and analysts.
the authors found that chief executives commonly respond to negative appraisals from Wall Street by managing appearances, rather than making changes that actually improve corporate governance: boards are made more formally independent, but without actually increasing their ability to control management. This is typically done by hiring directors who although they have no business ties to the company, are socially close to its top brass. According to James Westphal, one of the study's co-authors, some 45% of the members of nominating committees on the boards of large American firms have 'friendship' ties to the boss -- though this varies widely from company to company...
Why do analysts swallow this self-interested narrative? Respondents acknowledged that social ties could undermine independence, but most said they do not have the time to look into such issues...
Depressingly, these market-distorting shenanigans are part of a pattern. An earlier study found that public companies enjoy lasting share-price gains from plans that please analysts, such as share buybacks and long-term incentive schemes for executives, even when they fail to follow through on announcements.

Hemos llegado a la última de las Solas, Soli Deo Gloria: para la gloria de Dios solamente. La idea detrás de este principio es doble: en primer lugar, esta enseñanza nos deja ver que la razón por la cual Dios hace todas las cosas es para su propia gloria. En segundo lugar, esta Sola nos enseña que nosotros deberíamos hacer todas las cosas para la Gloria de Dios.
El texto con el que iniciamos esta entrada lo resume bastante bien. Como otros han observado, las frases “de Él”, “por Él” y “para Él” encierran todo el contenido de este capítulo 11 de la epístola a los Romanos. Si alguien quiere una respuesta corta de por qué las cosas tienen que ser para la gloria de Dios, la razón es muy sencilla, y está resumida en tres proposiciones de este solo versículo: de, por y para. Cuando Dios demanda su gloria
Cuando Dios demanda que la gloria sea dada solamente a Él, Él no está tratando de llamar la atención. Dios está satisfecho en su propia perfección, por lo que no necesita nada. Él no está buscando que lo aplaudan y lo alaben, puesto que después de nosotros aplaudir a Dios, nos quedamos cortos del tributo que Él se merece. Dios no tiene necesidad de algo tan imperfecto y tan inferior como la adoración que nosotros podemos rendirle. Esto no quiere decir que Él no la disfruta sino que no la necesita. Dios disfruta de nuestra adoración de la misma manera que un padre se complace en sus hijos cuando estos han asimilado bien sus buenas enseñanzas y las reflejan en sus vidas. En el caso de Dios, mientras mejor adorador soy, más cerca de la imagen de Su Hijo estoy. Y mientras más cerca de esa imagen me encuentro, mejor reflejo el propósito para el cual Él me creó. Y mientras más cerca de ese propósito me encuentro, más plenitud de vida disfruto. Y mientras más plenitud tengo, más gozo experimento. Y mientras más gozo experimento en Dios, más glorifico su ser. Como bien dice John Piper, "Dios es más glorificado en nosotros, cuando estamos más satisfechos en Él".
En más de una ocasión personas me han preguntado que si no es egoísta de parte de Dios el que todo sea para su gloria. Y nos hacemos esa pregunta por una razón muy sencilla: nosotros pensamos que Dios es como nosotros (Salmo 50:21). Cuando alguien hace algo y luego insiste en llevarse todo el crédito, esa actitud nos molesta, porque entendemos que esa persona está poniendo de manifiesto su orgullo. En realidad sabemos que él o ella no merece todo el crédito. Pero cuando Dios exige su gloria, El es merecedor de todo el crédito porque de Él, por Él y para Él son todas las cosas. Veamos una ilustración más: Si Dios dijera mañana que Él es el ser más glorioso que existe, eso no sería orgulloso de su parte, y no lo es porque es cierto; decir lo contrario sería mentir.
Ahora bien, que Dios exija que las cosas sean hechas para su gloria no significa de ninguna manera que Dios sea egoísta. ¿Cómo lo sabemos?Contestemos esa pregunta con otra pregunta: ¿cómo saben los hijos que un buen padre no es egoísta cuando le piden que le respeten y le honren? Lo saben porque los padres se pasan la vida trabajando para ellos, y se pasan la vida proveyendo para ellos. Pero supongamos que un hijo estuviese padeciendo de una enfermedad mortal, y que para que él poder vivir, el padre tuviera que dar su sangre y morir, a lo que él accede. ¿Podría ese hijo acusar a su padre de haber sido egoísta? ¡Claro que no! Eso y más, es lo que Dios ha hecho:
Nos ha dado la vida.
Sostiene nuestra vida.
Nos ha dado los dones y talentos que usamos en esta vida.
Ha provisto las oportunidades de la vida.
Y como si eso no hubiese sido suficiente, Dios se dio a sí mismo cuando fuimos afectados por una enfermedad mortal, de la cual sólo podíamos salir si Él moría por nosotros, y Él lo hizo en la persona de su Hijo. Su muerte por nuestra vida.
¿Todavía tienes duda de si Dios es egoísta cuando exige que toda la gloria sea para Él?
Para Su gloria, por nuestro bien.
Necesitamos entender que al Dios actuar para su propia gloria, los únicos beneficiados somos nosotros. Cuando Dios despliega su poder, nada es agregado a su ser, pero nosotros sí nos favorecemos de su poder, porque es su diestra la que nos ha sostenido. Igual sucede cuando Dios despliega su sabiduría; Él no se hace más sabio. O cuando nos da su gracia, Él no sufre ningún cambio ni para bien, ni para mal… Él es Dios. Esto merece que lo digamos otra vez: cuando Dios se glorifica a sí mismo, exhibiendo sus atributos, los beneficiados somos nosotros, sus criaturas.
Juan 17:1 dice: “Estas cosas habló Jesús, y alzando los ojos al cielo, dijo: Padre, la hora ha llegado; glorifica a tu Hijo, para que el Hijo te glorifique a ti”. CuandoDios glorificó al Hijo, lo hizo en la cruz, y nosotros resultamos ser los principales beneficiarios de su muerte. En la cruz, el Padre mostró el amor y la gracia del Hijo hacia los pecadores. Cuando el Hijo glorificó al Padre, lo hizo en la cruz, cumpliendo la obra que le había dado y satisfaciendo su justicia. Y de nuevo, nosotros fuimos los beneficiados al no tener que ir a la condenación eterna.
Entonces, ¿cómo glorificamos a Dios?
Dijimos que cuando Dios muestra sus atributos, Él se está glorificando a sí mismo. La pregunta sería, ¿de qué manera podemos nosotros glorificar a Dios? La Biblia dice en 1 Corintios 10:31 , “Entonces, ya sea que comáis, que bebáis, o que hagáis cualquier otra cosa, hacedlo todo para la gloria de Dios”. Hay muchas cosas en la vida del creyente que él no hace para la gloria de Dios. De hecho, con toda probabilidad, la mayoría de los creyentes no hacen la mayoría de las cosas de su vida para la gloria de Dios. Ganamos dinero no pensando cómo esto glorificaría a Dios, y gastamos dinero sin pensar cómo este gasto glorificaría a Dios. Más bien tendemos a pensar cómo va a satisfacer un deseo de mi carne. Nosotros somos seres egoístas aun a la hora de dar. Cuando damos a otros, damos y luego queremos que el otro nos lo agradezca, cuando en realidad si lo hubiésemos dado para la gloria de Dios, ni nos preguntaríamos si el otro lo agradeció o no, porque no lo dimos para eso en el primer lugar.
Entonces, ¿cómo le glorificamos? Podemos glorificar a Dios en adoración, cuando cantamos acerca de sus atributos. Podemos hacerlo en oración, cuando nos centramos en reconocer quién Él es, y reconocemos que Él es capaz de suplirnos, aun cuando no se lo pedimos, manifestando que es fiel y digno de confianza. Podemos glorificar a Dios cuando le amamos por encima de todas las cosas, porque con eso mostramos que Dios vale más que cualquier otra cosa en la vida, y que nadie puede competir con Él.
Ser agradecidos es otra forma en la que le damos gloria a Dios, porque ponemos de manifiesto que Dios no necesita tenernos en la abundancia para sentirnos satisfechos. En la escasez muchas veces Dios nos da más de Él, mostrando su suficiencia.
Una forma más de glorificarlo es cuando evitamos el pecado, reflejando su santidad en nosotros. Pero cuando yo evito el pecado, Dios no se beneficia en nada; el beneficiado soy yo. Cuando evito la avaricia, me beneficio porque no termino esclavizado por el afán de hacer dinero. Cuando el dinero está en primer lugar, el dinero me esclaviza. Cuando el trabajo está en primer lugar, el trabajo me esclaviza. Cuando mis deseos sensuales están en primer lugar, la lujuria me esclaviza. Dios es el único ser que demanda estar en primer lugar sin esclavizarme; de hecho solo cuando lo tengo en primer lugar es que soy verdaderamente libre.
También podemos glorificarle al ser altamente productivos. Ya Cristo lo dijo: “en esto es glorificado mi Padre en que llevéis mucho fruto” (Jn. 15:8 ). Filipenses 1:11 nos llama a estar “llenos del fruto de justicia que es por medio de Jesucristo, para la gloria y alabanza de Dios”. En este sentido, podemos glorificar a Dios usando nuestros dones y talentos de una manera que otros puedan entender que lo que hago con excelencia, lo hago porque Dios lo ha hecho posible.
Por último, podemos glorificar a Dios como lo hicieron los mártires. Ellos defendieron Su verdad y murieron por Su causa. Sufrir por Su causa y darle gracias a Dios en medio del dolor son maneras extraordinarias de glorificar su nombre. Cristo lo hizo, Pablo lo hizo, los reformadores lo hicieron. Juan 9 nos habla de una persona que nació ciega y estuvo ciega por años para que la gloria de Dios se manifestara en él. Cristo no vino con la intención de pasar por esta tierra con la menor cantidad de dolor posible. Cristo vino a desplegar la gloria de Dios sobre la tierra, independientemente de cuánto eso costara. Y al final le costó la vida.
Ahora, si no quieres glorificar a Dios de la manera que hemos venido describiendo, jamás podrás disfrutar de Dios de este lado de la gloria. ¿Por qué tiene que ser así? Por algo que el Catecismo de Westminster dice en su primera pregunta: "¿Cuál es el propósito número uno del hombre?" Respuesta: “Glorificar a Dios y gozar de Él para siempre”. Esas dos afirmaciones van de la mano: mi gozo depende de que yo le glorifique. Esto es importante: si no puedes gozarte en Dios y disfrutar de Él ahora, es porque la vida que estás llevando no le está glorificando. Es imposible vivir glorificando a Dios y no vivir en gozo. El gozo es el resultado natural de vivir una vida de plenitud en Dios glorificándole en lo que hago y en lo que dejo de hacer.
Con esta entrega finalizamos nuestras publicaciones acerca de las Cinco Solas de la Reforma. Estos cinco principios no constituyen toda la teología que el movimiento de La Reforma abrazó, pero sí resumen la columna vertebral de dicha teología. Las implicaciones de estas Solas van mucho más allá de lo que pudimos expresar en estas breves reseñas. Creo que si lo analizamos, bien todas las desviaciones doctrinales que hemos visto a lo largo de los años de una u otra manera están relacionadas a alguna mala interpretación a mala aplicación de uno de estos cinco principios. Eso nos da una idea de cuan importante es el poder entender y aplicar estas enseñanzas con precisión.

We have come to the last of the Five Solas, Soli Deo Gloria: for the glory of God alone. The idea behind this principle is two-fold: first, this teaching helps us see that the reason why God does all things is for his own glory. Second, it teaches us that we should do everything for the Glory of God.
The text quoted at the beginning of this entry sums it up quite well. As others have observed, the phrases “from Him”, “through Him” and “to Him” cover all the contents of Romans chapter 11. So if anyone would like a quick answer for why things must be for the glory of God, the reason is simple, and it is summed up in three propositions from this one verse: from, through and to. Let’s take a look the first phrase:
“From Him”: All things are from Him because He owns all things. David recognized this great truth in Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.” Besides, all things belong to Him because all things come from Him. Even the rain and sun that the wicked receive are received by the grace of God. “What do you have that you did not receive?” asks the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 4:7.
“Through (or by) Him”: All things were made by Him and all things are sustained by Him. John 1:3, Hebrews 1:3 and Colossians 1:17 support this idea.
“To Him”: Colossians 1:16 says that the Father made all things for the Son, and on the other hand, 1 Corinthians 15:28 says that when the Son is finished with all that He must do, He will return all things to the Father in order that “God may be all in all."
When God demands His glory
When God demands that glory belongs only to Him, He is not grasping for attention. God is satisfied in His own perfection, for which He has no need of anything. He is not looking for people to applaud and praise Him, since even after we applaud God, we fall short of the tribute He deserves. God does not need something so imperfect and inferior as the worship we can offer Him. This does not mean that He does not enjoy our worship, but that He does not need it. God enjoys our worship in the same way that a father is pleased with his children when they have absorbed the good things he taught them and begin to reflect them in their lives.
In this case, the more I am a worshiper of God the closer I am to the image of His Son. And the closer I find myself to His image the more I reflect the purpose for which He created me. And the closer I find myself to that purpose the more fullness of life I enjoy. And the more fullness I have the more joy I experience. And the more joy I experience in God the more I glorify His being. As John Piper put it so well, "God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him."
On more than one occasion people have asked me whether it is egotistical for God to determine that everything should be for His glory. And we ask ourselves this question for a very simple reason: we think God is like us (Psalm 50:21). When someone does something and then insists on taking all the credit for it, it bothers us, because we understand that person to be showing off their pride. In reality we know that he or she does not deserve all the credit. But when God demands His glory, He does deserve all the credit because “from Him, through Him and to Him are all things.” Let’s look at one more illustration: If tomorrow God were to say that He is the most glorious being that exists, it would not be arrogance on His part, and the reason it is not arrogant for Him to say that, is because it is right; to say otherwise would be a lie.
So then, the fact that God demands all things be done for His glory does not at all mean that God is egotistical. How do we know this? We can provide an answer in the form of another question: how is it that children know a good father is not egotistical when he expects them to honor and respect him? They know he is not an egotist because their father spends his life working for them and providing for them. But let’s imagine that a child was suffering from some deadly disease and in order for him to live, the father would have to give of his own blood and die, which he agrees to do. Would that son accuse his father of having been egotistical? Of course not! God has done just that and so much more:
He gave His life for us
He sustains our lives
He has given us gifts and talents to use in life
He has provided the opportunities of life
And as if that were not enough, God gave Himself when we were afflicted by a deadly disease from which we could only escape if He were to die for us. He did this in the person of His Son—His death for our life.
Do you still doubt whether God is egotistical when He demands that all the glory belongs to Him?
For His glory, through our good
We should understand that when God acts for His own glory we alone are the beneficiaries. When God displays His power, nothing gets added to His being. However we indeed are helped by His power, because it is His right hand that sustains us. The same is true when God displays His wisdom; He does not become more wise. Or when He gives us His grace; He does not suffer any change for good or for evil... He is God. So it is worth repeating: when God glorifies Himself, exhibiting His attributes, we, His creatures, are the beneficiaries.
John 17:1 says: “When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, ‘Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you.’ ”
When God glorified the Son, He glorified Him at the cross, and we have come to be the main beneficiaries of His death. In the cross, the Father displayed the love and grace of the Son toward sinners. When the Son glorified the Father, He glorified Him at the cross, completing the work that had been given to Him and satisfying His justice. Again, we are the beneficiaries in that we no longer must be eternally condemned.
So how do we glorify God?
We say that God glorifies Himself when He displays His attributes. But the question now is, in what way can we glorify God? The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
There are many things in the life of a believer that are not done for the glory of God. In fact, it is very likely that most of what is done in our lives is not done for the glory of God. We earn money without thinking about how it could glorify God, and we spend money without thinking about how our spending could glorify God. Rather we tend to think about how such things will satisfy the desires of our flesh.
We are also egotists when we give. We give to others, and then we expect them to be grateful to us. However, if we truly gave for the glory of God we would not wonder whether others were grateful or not, since that would not be why we gave in the first place.
So then, how do we glorify God? We can glorify Him in worship, when we sing about His attributes. We can glorify Him through prayer, as we recognize who He is and how He is able to fulfill us completely, even when we do not ask Him to, showing us that He is faithful and worthy to be trusted. We can glorify God when we love Him above all things, because we demonstrate that God is worth more than anything else in life, and that nothing can compete with Him.
Being thankful is another way in which we give glory to God, because we demonstrate how God does not need to grant us an abundance in order for us to be satisfied. Many times, in our lack, God gives us more of Himself, showing His sufficiency.
Another way we glorify Him is when we turn from sin, reflecting His holiness in ourselves. However, when I turn from sin, God does not benefit in the least by my turning; I am the beneficiary. When I turn from greed, I benefit myself because I do not end up enslaved by the drive to make money. When money is the driving motivation, money becomes my slave master. When work comes first in my life, work becomes my slave master. When my sensual desires are the driving factor in my life, lust becomes my slave master. God is the only being who requires first place in my life without enslaving me. In fact, it is only when He is first in my life that I am truly free.
We can also glorify Him by being highly productive. Christ said: “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit” (John 15:8 ESV).
Philippians 1:11 calls us to be “filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.”
In this sense we can glorify God through our gifts and talents, using them in ways that others may see that we are able to perform with excellence because God makes it possible to do so.
Finally, we can glorify God as the Martyrs did. They defended His truth and died for His cause. To suffer for His sake and to give thanks to God in the midst of pain are extraordinary ways of glorifying His name. Christ did this. The reformers did this. John 9 speaks of a man who was born blind and remained blind for many years so that the glory of God would be manifested in him. Christ did not come to pass through this world with the least amount of pain possible. Christ came to display the glory of God over all the earth, no matter how much that would cost. And in the end it cost him his life.
Now, if you do not want to glorify God in these ways, you will never be able to enjoy God this side of eternity. Why is that? The first question from the Westminster Catechism gives the reason:
“What is the chief purpose of man?”
Answer: “To glorify God and enjoy Him forever.”
Those two affirmations go hand-in-hand—our joy depends on whether we glorify Him. This is an important point: if you are unable to rejoice in God and enjoy Him now, it is because the life you are living is not glorifying to Him. It is impossible to live a life that glorifies God and not have joy. Joy is the natural result of living life to the full in God, glorifying Him in what we do and in what we do not do.
This entry closes our series of posts about the Five Solas of the Reformation. These five principles do not constitute all of the theology that the Reformed movement embraced, but they do sum up the main structure of that theology. The implications of these Solas go much farther than we can express in these brief reviews. I think that if we look at it carefully, a good part of the doctrinal errors that we have seen over the course of many years, in one way or another, are related to some wrong interpretation or wrong application of one of these five principles. That gives us an idea about how important it is to be able to understand and apply these teachings in precise ways.
