Leng Hong is a renowned Chinese-French artist whose masterful oil paintings are known for their rich colours, thick textures, and enigmatic quality. His subjects range from landscapes and still life scenes to portraits of Tang and Song Dynasty ladies in waiting. Drawing inspiration from Leng's experiences living in France, his painting Scented Season Series 15-I is cryptic and allusive, where the viewer's perspective is warped by the sizes of the plantation and the box-like surrounding.
Rather than neatly fitting into categories of Eastern or Western, historical or contemporary, Leng Hong's paintings aim to transcend these binaries and have a universal appeal.
