In multi-node networks where some of the nodes are not Ethernet-accessible, the next best solution may be Layer 2 bridging between Ethernet and Frame/ATM. In these cases, the RFC 1490 and RFC 1483 standards can be utilized to encapsulate Ethernet over ATM or FR（帧中继） for transport back to a Layer 2 bridge（第2层网桥） that ties in the remaining Ethernet nodes.
